| Ok , guys, I am getting serious about my LC breakfast! Today, I finally, made the famous Maggie's hot flax meal cereal. I could not find the oroginal " no flavor "protein isolate, mine was chocolate flavor. Was pretty good breakfast, something like an oatmeal - I am so glad that I finally got all the ingredients and made it! I was not sure if I did the right proportions, though. It tasted great. All ingredients came in different weight bags, so I did 1:1 ratio. The thing about protein isolate: had 10 carbs per pack ( individual packs). I was at the health store and almost died in the depertment of "protein" shakes, I could not find unflavored protein isolate. Everything was vanilla, chocolate and so on... Anyway, I had it good: added a few nutts and some heavy cream. Such a break from eggs! |

| Rafaella, The best place I have found to get plain soy protein isolate is from honeyville grain. They sell it in 4 pound bags for $13.87. They also have a flat rate shipping charge of $4.49 per order. Their isolate has 0 carbs. I also order their oat fiber to add to the pot when I make Maggie's cereal. The oat fiber is 100% fiber, so it is a good way to increase your daily fiber without adding any net carbs. Here is a link to Honeyville http://www.store.honeyvillegrain.com...ROD&ProdID=643

| Henry, since I got some oat fiber from honeyville a while ago and found it has absolutely no impact on my BGL, I have added the oat fiber to my original mix, too. It's now part of my regular mix. To make a batch, I now use equal parts, by weight, of four ingredients: golden flax meal, soy protein isolate, oat fiber and coarse wheat bran. I haven't worked out the exact nutritionals yet, but it's even better on my BGL and obviously it has more fiber. Tastes more like oatmeal, too. I hope to work out the precise nutritional information this weekend and get it into the recipe database. Rafaella, you're getting a lot more carbs than listed in my recipe by using a protein supplement that has other ingredients. Be sure to work out the precise nutritionals for your substitution, or ask at your food store for soy protein isolate. They either have it or can get it. When I want chocolate flavor, I just add a teaspoon of cocoa to the cereal mix - less than 1 net gm. of carbs.

| Yes, I know, Maggie. I was anxious to have my breakfast, that;s why I got the chocolate flavor protein isolate. I will be looking to get me a plain isolate now. I realize the less carbs - the better. Thanks for the recipe. |
