| Yea, yea, I am still on Atkins , and will give it a bit longer try...I was trying to "get the feeling for SBD vs Atkins" , but will try to read on SBD while I am doing Atkins. Am I going around with my posting? OK, HERE I GO: straight forward and honest answer: Atkins makes me feel, sometimes, very greesy and high-caloric. Moreover, I am missing fruits, milk , dairy, and cereal. Boy, sounds like I am missing my " PWL ( phat way of living)" , right? I am trying to add some fruits in my regimen, such as apples, sometimes, oranges. I am trying low carb pita ( only 5 carbs) from W.Mart; I had some milk ( all milk no matter how fat it is has about 12 gm of carbs in it), and now, I am afraid to loose my sense of "5". I consume about 30 gm of carbs daily, but with the above list of carb-rich foods, it is difficult to be straight and keep yourself inline. NOW, someone else posted a very smart remark about the SBD, saying that "it is like Atkins with cheating..." I am NOT looking forward to cheat, I just want the variety and results. I have results so far, but variety? On the other side, if I would change my WOL right now, and switch of SBD - I will loose my "structured WOL" on Atkins and I will begin to cheat here and there, and I will, eventually, end up with extra carbs and extra weight. The bottom line - I am still on Atkins, just thinking loud ( don't even go there) |

| I've got the SBD book, but I've never done it, and don't know how it works. If you miss fruit--which is more allowed on SBD, I guess--then maybe you should go there. The fact is, there's always something we have to give up in order to get something we want MORE. In my case, following the Atkins plan has brought me so many benefits, I no longer think about things I no longer eat. I DO eat berries, cream, kefir, cottage cheese, and cereal. I use a mixture of wheat bran, flaxseed meal, and whey protein that's delicious almost every morning. So...do you want to follow Atkins or not? Do it YOUR way, as Dr. Atkins always advised. But do whatever you can to make it a sustainable lifestyle within the guidelines of the plan. |

| Barb, I agree. Sometimes it's a matter of reading several plans' books, getting ALL the facts straight in your head and coming up with a plan that works for you. If you educate yourself with a few plans, you can come up with something that works for you and that you can stick with the rest of your life and not feel deprived. Take me for instance. I started out 3 yrs ago VERY strictly on Atkins, following it to the letter for at least a year. Then I began to experiment with other higher carb, yet lower glycemic foods and didn't find that I had any weight GAIN problem with them. Things I added (OCCASIONALLY) were apples (WITH peels) with organic (NO hydrogenated oils) peanut butter; WHOLE, ROLLED oats mixed with flaxmeal, buckwheat and hulled barley for cereal; Del Monte "Carb Clever"peaches sweetened with splenda mixed with cottage cheese; low carb tortillas; low carb breads; as well as lots of the allowed fruits, etc. NOW, mind you, I eat these things in moderation and on days I KNOW I am going to exercise. I plan ahead for these things. I still keep them within the realm of LC. The nice thing about these types of foods, is they offer variety. Raf, you are kind of on a journey of discovery. And you will have to find what fits for you. As for what's allowed on SBD, I wish I could help you, but I haven't a clue. That's ONE book I HAVEN'T read. But if you DO read the book, you will know what it's all about, then you can compare it to Atkins and make an informed decision. I just might still get that book and read it myself someday!!!

| Thanks for your advices, guys, I am still here, and proud that I got that far.... It is a real commitment and I am going to continue to do that because it makes me feel better. I am NOT hungry as before, and I am able to say "no" to MOST foods I used to LOVE. Today, I was working in ER and I picked up some Amaretto coffee mix that had about 16 carbs for 1 spoon. I wanted it SO bad, but did not take it. I placed it back, and had some diet coke. Oh, well, I am commited to my success. LOL |

| Raf, good for you!!!!! Amaretto is almond flavor. You could make your own flavored coffee at home with Coffee, half and half, splenda and almond extract. I make flavored coffees at home, chill it and pour it into an empty water bottle and take it with me wherever I go. I use Torani and DaVinci syrups too (sugar-free) in Irish Cream, Vanilla, Chocolate, Caramel, Hazelnut, Almond flavors. I change the flavors periodically. I get my syrups from a local store......Cost Plus World Market. But you can order the syrups online directly from DaVinci.com, Atkins.com and Netrition.com.

| Rafaella, have you tried CarbCountdown milk? There is regular, lowfat, and chocolate, which is marvelous. I don't drink it anymore, since I am doing my best to avoid dairy altogether. Even the chocolate has only about 4 carbs per 8 oz. I've bought it at Kroger, my local grocery....not sure WalMart carries it. I often make fruit salad with the peaches Barb mentioned: CarbClever by DelMonte. I used them as a base....the Splenda water/juice they are packed in keeps the apples/pears from turning brown. I use strawberries, cantaloupe, and a few grapes....just whatever we have. No pineapple or banana, or course. Portion control is key here. And you can make whipped cream to go on top if you like: beat heavy whipping cream with a sprinkle of Splenda and use sparingly. Just know that your plan is just that: YOUR PLAN. I don't know many people that go "by the book" 100%. Since I am lactose intolerant, I don't eat much dairy at all....I supplement. Some people have to watch their fruit intake closely. Some avoid soy or wheat....it just depends on the person. Trial and error will help you figure out what parts of the lowcarb way of life work for you best....no matter what the name of the plan is.

| oky, doky, I think that portion control is very true here. I tend to open the can of nuts and just to fish 'em out... Not a good idea. I am , thinking that 3 carb per serving, trying to "fool myself into the idea that "it is low carb, that means is ok to have it.." Control, control, and one more time control.... I sure need it, and that means ATKINS ONLY 8-) |

| Maxibee, Thanks for your response. I am still new to all this, and I have to read and choose careful my meals and choices. I was not sure that we have some low carb diary as such... I will keep my eyes open now on... Thanks a lot. P.S. I love fruits, I believe it is a part of my problem too. |

| Raf, are you done with induction yet? When you move onto OWL, you can add strawberries, blueberries and all the other berries, cantloupe, peaches. I even make a fruit salad in the summer with fresh fruit with a little apple cut in too, served with whipped cream sweetened with a little splenda is divine!!!!!

| lots of people have problems with portion control on nuts! it helps to pull out the amount you can have and put the rest away. |

| That is my nut butter-eating method, Dix. If that jar is anywhere near me, I dive in like a porpoise. A trick I use for nuts and other calorie-dense snacks is to portion them out in those little snack-size zipper bags right away when I bring them home from the store, and then allow myself just ONE bag at a time. I keep nuts in the freezer, too, to keep them from going rancid.

| Raf, as soon as you are done with induction, move onto OWL. It's a much more liveable part of the plan. You can then add the nuts and fruit. It offers more variety and keeps you from getting bored.
