| Hey, how many times did you see this word on this forum... "Coffee" Hi, I am Rafaella, and I am a Coffee-holic. I started in very young age, and now, in my late 30s, I still can't get enough of it.... So, do I have any other choices? Well, here we hae decaf, and decaf, and more decaf flavors. But it sure, does not cut the deal. How many hands are raised so far? - Good, I was hoping I am not alone. Now, the more coffee you drink, the more insulin your body releases, right? And, that means, it leads to more cravings and overeating, right? and that means that I need to work harder in other areas of my LC WOL because I am NOT going to give up my coffee. And, I am sure the coffee will miss me too... Can you tell me, what can be better in the morning, when you get up and make yourself a nice, fresh , wonderful smelled cup of coffee... Myself, I prefer the Latin-style of coffee, Cuban, Peru, Nicaragua and those type of flavors. I like 8- o'clock coffee, Starback coffee and others. I guess, I love dark , deep flavored coffee cups.... Every meal I have has to end up with coffee. And, coffee leads to Splenda- and that means - I consume "carbs" ( Oh, I hate this word ) I don't care for milk or cream in coffee, I love it sweet/black. Are you drinking your coffee as you reading this? Good. Because I do. I have some Starback while working... And, While I work grave-yard shift in the hospital, Coffee became an important part of my life. ..l. Stay alive, Stay alive... More to the story? Yes, I need to figure out - no, for God sake, not How to quit the coffee - I cannot do that - just how to cut down a little and how to start drinking more water and tea. I love tea, as well. But not like I love my COFFEE.... Have a nice , coffee-rich mornin', ladies and gents. |

| Ok, the reason people don't like decaf is because it usually tastes like cr_p... because it is made too week....I had to stop drinking coffee years ago cause it tore up my stomach, but I still love my coffee in the morning... I get beans, grind them fresh and for every cup my coffee maker says (8,10, 12) I put that many scoops of coffee, plus a little more for the pot... Most people don't even know they are drinking decaf when they come over and have coffee, granted you don't get the buzz, but after awhile your body adjusts to waking up without it....A good way to switch is to go 3/4 regular 1/2 decaf, after a week or two go 1/2 and 1/2, then 3/4 decaf 1/4 reg... till you are drinking the decaf.... There are great flavored decaf beans you can buy, please don't buy folgers or maxwell house, those are horrible. (coffee has been one of my favorite flavors... I love coffee hagen das, and coffee yogurt is my favorite... so it is the flavor I crave) hope this helps. c

| Big coffee drinker here! <raises cup> I drink mine black and strong. 8 o'clock columbian is my favorite. I grind each pot fresh. I find that caffeine is a good appetite supressant and doesn't effect my weight loss much if at all. One of my favorite quotes and I wish I coiuld take credit for it is that "the only way they are getting my coffee from me is to pry it from my cold lifeless hand." |

| Coffee has been a real issue for me. It is my comfort/ my friend in the morning. It is definitely hard to give up. I've tried and then that is all that consumes my thoughts is coffee. Especially during the colder months and first thing it the a.m. I've stalled and blamed it on coffee but still couldn't manage to give it up. I only drink about 1-2 cups in the a.m. I've tried decaf & it doesn't come close. It taste yuck.. no matter what brands I try or stuff I add to it. I don't notice that it gives me any more cravings then I would have with out it. I actually eat more just to try & get my energy to start my day. Does anyone know of some good tasting decaf? Or have tried 1/2 decaf & 1/2 reg? The bad thing is caffeine is a diuretic & it isn't good for your bones as far as calcium is concerned. Which makes me nerves being female & having osteoporosis in my family. It isn't something you should drink in excess. 1-2 cups a day I believe should be it. If any at all. In the p.m. I crave coffee but when I really think about it it is for the warmth so lately I've been having a cup of lemon/ginger tea and it does the trick. I'll hopefully bring myself to do that in the a.m. Sometimes I wonder if it is out of habit. I smoked for a few months right when I was out of high school. We won't say how long ago that was but even now years....later I find myself thinking about smoking when I'm driving or standing around waiting for something or someone. It was my fixation. My thing to fill in the time gap. Ok I'm going off but I feel coffee is addicting like smoking & the more I think about it, it is also psychological more then an actual physical need. I hate to think of it as an addiction because then that would be admitting that something has control over me. Which scares me...honestly....

| I guess you could cut the pods open and pour the coffee into your filter on your regular coffee pot and give it a try. It really is delicious though. Trust me, I am particular about my coffee!!!

| Hmmm. We gradually switched from regular to decaf, and it all tastes the same to me. I find that I feel better without a lot of caffeine in my system. I used to drink a really big mug in the morning, then at least 2 at work. Now I have my mug of decaf, and take a travel cup with me to work, and don't touch the regular at all. Switching to decaf hasn't accelerated my weight loss, but I do feel better overall. I like mine with cream. Once in a blue moon I like it sweetened. If no cream is available, but Splenda is, I'll sweeten it and drink it black, rather than put that nasty CoffeeMate in it. (Shudder!!)

| <looks around the room at her family!> fellow coffeeaholics....it's so nice to be in good company. Here's my weekend, coffee on Friday morning, coffee on Friday night (driving), coffee Saturday morning, Saturday at lunch time, Saturday night (playing WoW!) I had 3 coffees, Sunday morning, no coffee til after church, and then 2 coffees (driving again) on my weekend drive. Starbucks, Port City Java (my new fav.) and Java House. Drinking coffee has replaced my social dining... I realize that I've lost 50 pounds, but part of me wonders if I might have lost 75 or even 100 if I'd cut out the coffee (no decaf for me, and I like it sweet - 3 Splenda's and a ton of 1/2 & 1/2 - my best friend says I like a splash of coffee with my sugar and cream - he might be right). But the reality is - I'm willing to lose slower in order to enjoy my coffee... I'm a coffeeaholic.. glad to meet ya'll. |

| I too was a person who LOVED my coffee. I switched to decaf a while back and taste has never been an issue....now the headache and nausea from the withdrawl, that's another thing! But really, I buy whole bean decaffeinated coffee at costco...it's starbucks coffee roasted for costco. I make it good and strong...that's one thing...you have to make it strong enough. The decaffeination process does something to the beans and you have to use more coffee to get it as strong. I honestly can't taste the difference and I feel so much better without all the caffeine in my system. I like mine with splenda and lots of cream so I have had to cut back....but I don't miss the caffeine. For those of you who want to keep your regular coffee and are doing well with that choice I say, "more power to you!"...but if you would like to cut caffeine just know that it doesn't have to mean giving up taste. I am very picky about my coffee as well.

| I couldn't give it up if I tried. I'm a 2-3 cup in the morning guy, and 1-2 after dinner. Luckily it hasn't had a noticeable effect on my weight loss. |

| When my kidney stone problems came back last year, I thought to myself, does this mean that I have to quit drinking coffee? Or does this mean that I have to switch to Decaf? (You see, coffee is one of the foods the stone-prone are supposed to avoid.) I decided that the only rational course of action was to learn to live with intense agonizing pain. On occasion. That and to drink lots of water between pots of coffee. I just got through, not ten minutes ago, roasting a batch of Panama Carmen Estate. And, as I type this, I'm brewing a small pot of Columbia Cauca FNC. Mmmmm... I can smell it all the way in here. Ah.... See, it's worth suffering for. I suppose there might be some good decaf coffees out there. God knows, I sometimes wish coffee didn't have any caffeine in it. But when you read up on how they MAKE decaf coffee... It is revolting. Google it yourself, if you want. Typically, they extract the oils from the raw coffee beans, then extract the caffeine, then soak the oils back into the beans. Then they roast it, as if it was normal coffee. Imagine if they did that with beef. That's kind of like removing all the meat from a cow, extracting the cholesterol from the meat with a chemical bath, then stuffing the meat back into the cow and pretending it's just like fresh. Sure, you could grill it and eat it, but why bother, and why pretend it's still beef?
