| Well for those who do not know me... I have been at this for a long time with lots of ups and downs. I am doing good now feeling like I have finally fallen into the lifestyle groove rather than the obsessive diet mentality. But I want some reassurance that I am not the only one who fights cravings for sugar everyday regardless of how much in ketosis I am, or how good I have been. I seem to wake up everymorning wanting to eat donuts...yesterday I stood at the deli counter waiting for my food, and turned around to find crispy cremes with carmel and choc topping staring me down. ARGH... I was so content till I saw that... and stood there to wonder if I would gain back weight if I just looked at them, or if GFB, if I opened the door to smell them... rofl.... I quickly moved away from that display.... lol Heidi |

| I try to stay away from places that have food I crave....keep what I can eat around me and hope for the best....Sometimes I come to work and there are boxes of donuts in the kitchen... someone decided we all needed them.... I have passed them by, and I have eaten my fill.... feel much better when I don't eat them.... I don't craave them, but when they are placed in my view finder, it is hard to say no to them... but I have and I will in the future...

| I don't have sugar cravings nearly as much as I did before menopause. I think the monthly PMS caused blood sugar irregularities, and that's when I craved sugar. I usually want something sweet at night, so I try to make something lc friendly. And, sometimes just a cup of hot sweet tea is all it takes to quell the old cravings. We've all had to stare sugar temptation in the face, but I just look back at how far I've come, and forward to how far I have to go, and decide that I don't really need or want that sugar, anyway. Actually, I kinda feel sorry for those who munch on sugar all the time. (My boss, eating on candy all day long!)

| occassionally, i'll find myself thinking about eating something that isn't a good choice for me. think that can happen to us all sometimes. what i've found is most of the time, if i do have some, it's NOTHING like what i remembered it and often, i don't even want to eat most of it! this happens more times than not. a bite or two is enough to help me understand that my tastes are different now, and the buzz i remembered from the old days just doesn't come from eating that junk anymore. like nita, i try to keep lc "sweet" stuff on hand or available, and make something that not only tastes good to me, but that i also feel good about eating. lately, i've spent more time experimenting with various recipes to give myself more options. i will never eat like i used to, even lc-versions: sugar was a the very BOTTOM of my old food pyramid. i used to start getting antsy and anxious if we were low on chocolate in the house. how's that for addicted? i dunno. i suppose it's different for everybody. but it helps me much, much to give myself pleny of "legal" options. i didn't stop liking sweet stuff because i low-carb. but i sure do handle it differently now. |

| In the past, I have found myself going home from work craving for doughnuts and stopping to getting a dozen doughnuts and eating the whole box before I got home! You could say I was a bindge eater. But my craving didn't just stop at sweets. I would crave Pizza and would order and extra large with all the fixings and would eat it all by myself! It's not like I was hungry, It was like my body just wanted carbs whether they were sweet or salty! But now, I don't get them as often. I may get the odd, craving for something sweet or even pizza and just brush it off. I've basically learnt not to give in to them. (craving) I guess that's what you get when you're a carboholic! |

| Sometimes I get hit with cravings so hard that I can actually "taste" the food that I'm craving. It's one of the things that makes me glad that I live out in the country. The thought of having to get in the car and drive 50 miles to go get something is more work than it's worth. PMS is still pretty bad craving-wise and if I have a really, really bad day, I may want something, but for the most part I have the cravings under control.

| Funny, I never had cravings - I mean, I never actually craved any particular food... I DID crave and still sometimes crave the "idea" of something, though! For example, I would THINK I really wanted the creme brulee on the menu or the homemade bread in the basket - but almost always - if I cheated and had the food in question - I found it incredibly UNsatisfying! I have learned over the years that what looks good to me is NEVER worth it! I have a sweet DH, too, who will order something or eat something and frequently (in support of me) will actually tell me, "it's not worth it, I promise". And he really means it! Good luck handling the cravings and when you have them - why not ask yourself if you are actually craving the item or just craving the 'thought' of that item and what you 'think' you remember how good it tasted. |

| Well who would have thought? I read this thread about aweek ago and was thinking to myself i never have cravings i have been eating this woe for around a year and have lost over 50lbs I feel great and hav4e had nothing but positive comments from people around me. Well for the past week i have had big cravings......really big even though it is tom for me I usually just buy a block of low carb choc and it gets me through NOT this week though......I have for the first time in a year had 2 biscuits..(not low carb)1 soft serve ice cream with a waffle cone and dipped in nuts ( wow it was so good) also when I dished up the families pudding cheesecake and icecream I managed to taste test a spoon or two... I don't want it to become a habit......Should I go back to induction for a few days to kerb my cravings or is it just because of TOM....thanks for any help I really don't want to have to buy bigger clothes ever again.......... |

| Kauritree, we have ALL fallen off the wagon, really!! Just the fact that you are aware of this means you have the desire and will to get back on track. You are very smart to keep LC chocolate around for Aunt Flo I am no expert believe me, but a few days (after Flo leaves) on induction (maybe even a week) should make you feel MUCH better... a good plan! |

| Thanks for the advice. I have decided today is a good day to go back to induction. I not only have been craving sweeter stuff. I have also noticed my meals are getting larger. I think I will be fine after a few days on induction even if it helps me just get back to a smaller serve. I am also at the stage where I need to try a few recipies so after induction I might give a few new things ago (just to stop the boredom of similar meals all the time) fingers crossed |

| kauri-tom is notorious for cravings, and even though you normally get by with a hunk of lc choc, i think there are so many variables in the way bodies work that sometimes, you get something you didn't bargain for. i would be willing to guess that some of the off-plan stuff could well stimulate cravings, too, and impact your portion sizes. it's all related, seems to me. getting right back on track is the perfect way to handle it. and hon: you won't have to go back to the old way. you are AWARE of what's happening and you've decided you like the new you. don't let it scare you when you have a perfectly normal little glitch. you know how to deal with it! and getting a cookbook and trying new recipies is THE best recipe for boredom there is. with a little imagination and a little information, no one on lc should ever have to be bored with their menu. good luck to you! |

| Thanks for the advice I would love some ideas for mince or ground beef i think you call it. We have so much of it in the freezer it would be great to have some new ideas of what to do with it apart from tacos and hamburgers...Any recipies with any kind of beef would be fantastic though as we have just had a beast killed and put in the freezer....I love meat so that is good. Thanks have a nice day everybody............. |

| Ground Beef... hmmm... here are two - they are both fantastic and serve more than 2 or 4. You can freeze half for later... CABBAGE LASAGNA 1 lb. ground beef 1 c. chopped onion 1/2 c. chopped green pepper (I use red peppers because the green ones repeat on me! :o ) 1 medium head cabbage 1/2 tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepper 1/2 tsp oregano 1/2 tsp garlic salt 1 small can tomato paste 8 oz. sliced mozzarella cheese (I use shredded 'cause it's what I buy in bulk and keep in the freezer)
BEEF EGGPLANT SURPRISE - (a surprise because even people who hate eggplant will LOVE this dish!) 6 c. cubed (1" cubes), peeled eggplant 2-3 garlic colves - minced 1 1/2 lbs ground beef 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp hot pepper flakes (like you use on pizza!) 1 -2 bay leaves one medium onion, chopped 4 c. chopped tomatoes (sometimes I use canned whole tomatoes if I can't find nice ready fresh ones) 1/2 can (small) tomato paste 1 c. grated Parmesan cheese olive oil, salt, pepper
I also serve this with extra cheese to sprinkle in it for those who like that. Don't skimp on either the pepper flakes or the cinnamon - these two ingredients MAKE this dish - and for those who like it spicy - add a little more pepper... it is a favorite whenever I serve it - all over the world! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I also have a great ground beef stroganoff recipe if you want more... let me know - and I hope these help!! Let me know if you use them and what you/family think! best - Rachel |
