| Hello - I'm curious to hear what a typical Atkins day looked like for some of the folks who have made it to goal or are well on their way (I'd like to know about your eating habits while on inductions or OWL as I still have 65 pounds to ditch. What worked well...what didn't? I don't want to say I'm bored but I am looking for fresh menus. Plus I have a feeling that I could be eating a few more salads and a little less cheese. Thanks! |

| Typical day: Breakfast: flaxseed/wheat bran/whey protein cereal with mixed berries (unsweetened frozen) OR bacon and scrambled egg. Lunch: tuna salad (can of tuna, mayo, celery, seasonings). Sometimes a veg, such as broccoli. Sometimes deviled eggs. Green olives. Dinner: meat or fish, huge salad with mixed greens, cucumber, blue cheese crumbles, mushrooms, and bottled dressing (Ken's Creamy Caesar is my absolute favorite), another veg, such as fresh green beans or asparagus. I drink coffee with cream for breakfast some days. Green tea--a cup in the morning or afternoon or both. Lots of water all day, of course. I don't eat much cheese. I try to eat flaxseed meal in some form almost every day. Fiber is an important component of my menu. My favorite thing is that big salad. |

| Breakfast: - cereal w/nuts or berries or whatever - eggs, plain or w/bacon or w/ham or w/cauli home fries or topped w/salsa & grated cheddar - omelette w/various veggies - usually tea At work: - coffee w/cream - sometimes (especially if they're having one of their interminable carbohydrate festivals in the break room) I bring a little corn muffin or biscotti or cupcake to have w/coffee, either in the am or pm for a snack. Lunch: Usually leftovers. Meat/fish & vegie or salad or half an avocado. Usually green tea. Dinner: - Some kind of meat or fish, vegie & salad (or two vegies), glass of wine or iced tea, but usually water, my favorite beverage. (Always cook extra, for lunches.) - maybe dessert - if so, usually a bit of fruit w/a piece of cheese or sweetened sour cream or whipped cream. - maybe a cocktail or lc beer or two on the weekend. - sometimes, if I'm pressed for time, I have "breakfast food" for dinner. - If I'm having company, some kind of lc dessert like cheesecake. Other snacks: - cheese - sometimes on a GG bran cracker - handful (note, small hands, LOL!) of nuts or seeds somewhere along the way. Sometimes plain, sometimes toasted up with some kind of sweet or savory flavoring. - raw veggies w/dip - raw spinach, right out of the bag. - I've been known to, if I feel hungry, just eat some cream cheese, right off a spoon. Couple of notes here: 1. The 98 version of DANDR did not limit cheese or heavy cream. For me it worked out fine, since I seem to have a pretty good feedback system that tells me when I'm satisfied. 2. My whole approach to this business, when I started a bit short of 170 lbs., was to normalize my blood sugar and maybe lose 20 lbs. At the end of 2 years I was down to 111 and have stayed there +/- a few lbs. since then. Consequently, I don't eat much differently now than I did on OWL. 3. There's no way to show you the wide variety of my menus. I love to cook and saying something like: "meat/fish, vegie, salad" may sound boring, but that's because it doesn't describe the numerous ways I prepare each of these foods. Check out the recipe sections and the archives of the cooking forum and you'll find a huge number of exiting ways to treat each of these items. HTH

| Your meals are boring with this WOE only if you make them so. When I started the Atkins WOE, I looked for recipes that I would like and that I could incorporate in my menus on a regular or semi-regular basis. I enjoyed a variety of foods during my 9 months of induction. However, that variety has exploded now that I am in OWL, although I still use a lot of my induction meals to keep my carb counts under control. Breakfasts are usually rotated between different versions of Maggie's cereal, omelets, and l/c pancakes. My lunches may incorporate leftovers from dinners or, if I have time on the weekend, something that I would fix specifically for my lunches to take to the office. For example, this week I made a batch of my version of a l/c Avgolemono (a Greek lemon chicken soup in which I substituted chopped spinach for the usual rice), which I will pair up with a nice salad and some deviled eggs. Dinners are where I like to add to greatest variety. However, because I don't have a lot of time when I get home from the office for cooking, I tend to fix meals that will have enough leftovers to use for dinners that week. Here is my menu for this weeks dinners: Monday- salad, and boneless chicken breast pounded and coated with ricotta & parmesean cheese and green onion, stuffed with slices of chicken andouille sausage and rolled-up served on top of Dreamfields linguini w/marinara sauce. Tuesday-(a special valentine dinner) lettuce salad, unless I can find the thin asparagus my wife likes, eggplant stuffed with shrimp & crab, onion, green pepper, celery, and mushrooms with a glass of souvigon blanc and for dessert a baked Alaska using the 3 minute chocolate cake for the base and some l/c black raspberry icecream. Wednesday- roast pork, zucchini carbonara, and roasted greek style brussel sprouts. Thursday- salad and another 1/2 of a stuffed eggplant from Tuesday's menu. Friday- a reprise of Wednesday's dinner. | As usual, Henry, you make me want to catch a cab to your house this minute! You've taught me that a little cookery is a very good thing for this WOE--and it doesn't have to be difficult. My favorites run all the way from one-minute muffins to chocolate truffles. |

| DH and I have been prep cooking over the weekends so we don't get too stressed with dealing with cooking over the weekends, so this week dinners are: Rock Cornish Hens (he stuffed his but left it out of mine) Pork Chops, sprinkled with some seasonings and baked Spagetti - made with 1/2 beef and 1/2 grn turkey (will eat with lc =dreamfields) but only 1/2 cup cooked Taco's - he will have the shell, and I will have a taco salad with tomatoes, cheese, avocado, sour cream and salasa... Breakfasts are usually hard boiled eggs (made into egg salad) scrambled wtih pork sausage or bacon and usually some cheese (some days I will put into a lc tortilla, some days not) (usually cook up the eggs on weekend and just portion it out when I get to work (I eat breakfast and lunch there) Lunches this week will be ceasar salad with various meat/cheese toppings, blackberries, and or strawberries wtih a little cream, maybe some sf jello, or some yogurt and fruit...(usually get plain yogurt and sweeten with splenda and add fruit (only 1/2 cup at a time) Sometimes I make taco salads, chef salads, left overs in salad, etc. tuna with hard boiled egg, wrapped in lettuce leaves with cukes and tomatoes on the side. I get marinated artichoke hearts and add to my salads for variety, or green olives.... feta cheese is good every now and then. hope that helps. c
