| Well, folks, here I am...in OWL!!! I am so pleased to be here. To me, it means I've cleared that first hurdle. Yesterday, while looking over my new LC cookbooks, it dawned on me that I *can* do this for life. There are recipes for yummy desserts in there, as well as fantastic meal ideas. I have obstacles...temptations, really, every day: My daughter has her snacks for school (oatmeal-fruit bars, crackers, etc) and I don't touch 'em. I have all I need with my new WOE. Pepperoni chips, one-minute muffins, mock danish, string cheese, deviled eggs..... Anyway, I'm here in OWL now. I'm taking it slow. I fear going hog-wild, so for me, it's 5 extra carbs every few weeks, I think.

| Michelle, welcome to the graduate school for a low/controlled carb WOE. It sounds like you have made the mental transition from this is a diet to this is something I can do for the rest of my life. That is the biggest hurdle. Now you will find what works for you and what dosen't. It is a constant learning process as your body's needs change over time. Stay with it and the rewards will be yours for a lifetime.

| I second what Henry said...... moving onto OWL makes you realize this is a lifetime journey and one that you can sustain. I, too, only added five carbs every couple of weeks in the beginning and it was always the same food choice so I could see just how my body would process that food. You are right, induction is the most difficult and once you have passed that hurdle..... you begin traveling down the road to a lifetime of success! Good luck and keep us posted. |

| That's a great feeling. One of the key strengths--underappreciated at that--of Dr. Atkins's plan is the staging. The longer I use the plan, the more I realize the wisdom of moving in increments from one phase to the next, continually learning new information about the plan--and about myself. Ultimately all four phases come into play as LC becomes a lifestyle. This has given me a strategy, and continuing hope that I might at last keep the Weight Creep away from my door. Or my butt, as the case may be. Best wishes. |
