| :great: hi There I came across this site whilst I was looking for low carb support and I think it is great. I have been following low carb eating on and off for a couple of years, but I recently decided that I intend to do it permanently.The main reason being that I physically feel so much better when I low carb.There seems to be a lot of negative press at present in the UK for low carb diets and I get so sick of trying to defend the way I eat- it is a refreshing change to find other people who are in the same boat as myself and actually believe in this lifestyle. My partner knows i am better on LC and so supports me but I tend not too mention it to anyone else I just say I am healthy eating - which is true. It will be great to be able to share ideas etc with you all, and I have already read a lot of the old posts. Anyway just wanted to introduce myself, Moomin |

| Hi, Moo! Welcome to LCE! Glad you found us Everyone I work with used to look at my food and ask a ga-zillion questions. Some of them tried LC, some were just curious. Now, they really don't pay much attention; they've moved on to other issues(thank goodness). When quizzed, I would say, "oh, just watchin' my carbs and eating lots of protein and veggies". That seems to appease the crowd and it's never mentioned again. Best of luck on your *protein and veggie* journey Post often and let us know how you're doing! S.

| hello moo! we get plenty of negative press re: low-carb here, too. people who know me don't bother ME with it anymore, though! i just whip out one of my before pix and that says it all... when i'm dealing with people i don't know, i sometimes just say i don't eat sugar or white flour. referring to "healthy eating" is a great idea, too. then, later on, if they discover it's lc, they'll realize the media's been duping them! welcome. looking forward to getting to know you. |

| Hi, Moomin -- Nice to see another new face. (Mine's pretty new, too! Just found this board in the last couple of weeks and am impressed at how friendly and encouraging everyone is.) Like goddess, when people ask me how I'm losing weight, I often simply tell them that I'm cutting out sugars and starches and eating more veggies and lean protein. Which is absolutely true. If I ever get close to my goal weight (*cough* I mean "when" *cough*), I fully expect to announce that I'm doing Atkins to everyone who lets me. I already have a plan to make myself a workout t-shirt that reads "Body By Atkins." Hee. Until then, I'll be a bit more circumspect and avoid a few arguments. But I must admit, I'm intensely grateful for the little old man I met in an airport back in 2003 who refused to accept the seat I offered him. "I'm doing Atkins," he told me and my traveling colleagues. "I've lost a ton of weight and I feel tremendous! You can keep your seat! I don't need it anymore!" That was the whole conversation and he wandered off after that, leaving me to mention that I'd heard Atkins was an unhealthy diet program. One of my friends, a research scientist, chimed in with a "no, actually, it's not" and proceded to talk for a few minutes about the impact of insulin, etc. The little man's testimony opened the door for me to learn about the scientific background of this WoE. Without that, I might have never believed ... because I would have never looked for myself.

| Hi Kim love the idea of your work out T -shirt, can't wait to shift the rest of my weight and be able to prove to all the doubters that Yes Atkins does work! I have mainly decided to folloe this WOE for health reasons, partly to lose weight, but also because the only time I feel full of energy, in control of my cravings and migraine free is when i am doing low carb.I stopped last year after pressure from friends etc who kept telling me how unhealthy it was, but I couldn't reconcile what they were saying with how i was feeling so went back onto it and just kept it to myself.Having read the book numerous times it makes complete sense to me.So now I intend to do it for life. Lucky encounter for you at that airport,sometimes things happen for a reason.Looking forward to getting to know you all. Liz

| Welcome, Liz ![]() This is a great site. I have been away from low carb for a few months but restrted yesterday for the same reasons you stated. I have had trouble with people in the past poo-pooing Atkins. I wrote a conversation in my jounrnal recently about it. The girl claimed to have researched Atkins but then said that it was all fatty foods and meat. So I gave her the business. But it's sad that people are swayed by the negative media. Actually I think most people heard the bad stuff years ago and are just holding on to it in their minds (closed minds). I love the t-shirt idea as well. I had thought of something similar. When I lose down to a respectable size I am going to wear a t-shirt with my before and after picture on it that says "and they say Atkins doesn't work". Actually I was thinking of putting my before picture on a t-shirt to wear while I workout to motivate me. When I'm back to 100 pounds lost (I gained 20 back during my time off) I'm going to do that and put 100 pounds lost 100 to go...well probably not that exact saying but something similar. So again, welcome, like I said I love this site. I would probably not have returned to low carb or even kept on plan for the time I was on it if it hadn't been for LCE. Hope you enjoy yourself here!
