Question Does/Has anyone had Candida?

As I was brushing up on my Aktins' bible (as I call it) I have a goal to start back on Atkins on the 13th of this month . I caught a chapter on Candida and I remember a few years ago going to a herbalist/allergy consultant, that mentioned that I had alot of symptoms of candida and that I should have them addressed, I didn't think that it was all that serious and didn't concern myself until I read that it can affect my weightloss and if ridding of mushrooms and dairy (temporaily in my diet) that I would improve not only my weightloss but, also my allergies (which seem to be getting worse and worse through the years. And I can clearly remember have the ease of my allergies on Atkins the last time that I attempted the program but, I was eating alot of cheese?)

I just wondered if there were some others that experience candida and what you did and how long it took to clease the system of it?

Thanks!:jump:

There is a search function on this site and you can stick in the word CANDIDA and find lots of posts.

You can also go to the articles section and plunk in the same work and come up with a few articles. Here's one.

And, better yet, you can go to your doctor and talk about candida and how it affects you and your weight loss.

PQ,

I've had candida and a real good dose of it! Of course that was when I was a vegan and only ate carbs! I went to the health food store, got a product called Yeast Cleanse by Solaray and then followed a cleansing diet which is basically nothing with sugar, mold, grains, dairy or fermentation in it. It was totally boring, but I stuck it out and then began LCing. I think purging my system of the yeast has helped me a whole lot especially in the CRAVING area. Now I don't get cravings at all!

There are a lot of excellent books that can help you with this and if you have a good health food store nearby, they usually can put you on the right track with supplements. The entire goal is to get your body into more of an alkaline state so that the yeast don't have anything left to "feed" on (gross!)

It worked for me and I would definitely do it again, if I needed to.

Donna

April,
I read all of that info, and I realize that my doctor could help me, I plan on asking him his thoughts/suggestions, I guess I was looking to hear from others and their experiences.

Thank you Donna! I will look into the yeast cleanse. Anything that helps curb hungry other than ketoisis is something to consider!
I am highly allergic to mold as well....yikes....
I am beginning to see a sign, my low carb program can't come soon enough!
Thanks again!

my doc didn't help me any. the GI doc said 'take more nexium'. so i quit taking it since it was not helping and i thought maybe making me feel worse. i had developed a chronic so throat and not deep...my uvula looked as if i had strep throat. so, i visited a naturopath who sent me for blood draws for both candida and food allergies (100). turns out, i have no real strong allergies but a full blown case of candida. i started having symptoms when i was macro/vegan....pure whole grain eater. then i went paleo...guess it was too late to stop it. also i was eating some fruit. eventually i added, cheese, yogurt and things just kept getting worse. the nexium probably iced the cake by reducing the stomach acid to the point where candida could just go wild. so here i go. started GSE, capryllic acid and increase in other stuff. the GSE nauseated me the first day so i decreased the dose and will work up to it. haven't started taking psyllium yet since it gives me gas. will start with a half dose 2xdaily this weekend and work up. i already eat 2 T flax each day. if anyone ever though that lc was restrictive, try this. wow! i'm hungry. thank goodness vegies are abundant in this diet!

Jem, that's interesting about the sore throat. My niece got sore throats all the time, the dr kept giving her antibiotics, but they never completely cleared up. She finally had a dr diagnose a yeast infection, treated it accordingly, and the sore throats disappeared. The antibiotics just made them worse!

Isn't lc great? Just getting away from the sugar has to help tremendously if you have candida.

I have had Candida for a long time and have never been able to control cravings until recently. I have tried many things, my doctor had even Rx'd Nystatin to clear my system before LC but it was only a temporary help. I bought very expensive probiotics and other things, other yeast cleanses nothing kept working.

I was on another site and a board certified holistic practitioner was talking about a way to totally control candida. A product had turned her life around and she was telling others. I contacted her and ordered this product which creates entire colonies of good bacteria in the gut (i was skeptical). It worked!!!
Those yeasties love carbs and when you dont eat them they scream to be fed. I finally have no cravings this go round.

Ferm Plus is what it was and I used 1 1/2 tsp in am and 1 1/2 tsp bedtime for 2 weeks then 1/2 tsp in am 2 weeks. Then I starte LC last Sat w/o cravings.

I just looked at this ladys site and this is description of (neferm is australia name-FermPlus in US)

NuFerm is Zero Rated for Gluten (no detectable gluten). The Worlds Finest and Only Certified Organic Pro-biotic Superfood proven to colonize in the digestive tract! This is the only probiotic that GROWS into a renourished microflora!

I have no financial interest. I bought it and it worked after having this Candida for years. I have to tell others so u dont have to waste $$ on the things I have.

Off my soap box but I had to share.

Kerry

Kerry thanks for sharing that. I think I have yeast in my system. I don't get the typical vaginal infections but I have had a place on my bum since I got a shot 5 years ago for strep throat. It flares, it itches and I am sure due to all the carbs I have eaten in the past that I have a great environment for it.

My question is, do I have to cut out the cheese in my diet to keep it away or do I cut it out just during treatment and then can eat it later? Thanks
