| I have had it a couple of times without incident, so unless I learn otherwise, I will accept their carb count.

| Cheesecake is actually a natural for low-carb recipes. There are a couple of good recipes in the recipe forum. I would believe them...

| I would ask they use maltitol for the sweetener - as does Max's Cafe - in their LC cheese cake. Many people, not all, find maltitol and lactitol to be more troublesome than other LC sweeteners. They can stall weight loss and/or cause gas and other intestinal distress. Happily, it is easy to make your own LC cheesecake using sweeteners you know are safe for you. Good recipes abound for LC cheesecake. I happen to like George Stella's New York cheesecake; but there are many fast, no-bake cheesecake recipes, too. I know there are some good recipes in LCE's Recipe section:LCE Cheesecake Recipe Collection

| They say their cheesecake is made with Splenda! I have made my own and trust me, it doesn't even come CLOSE to Cheesecake Factory! Theirs just melts in your mouth!! Anyway, guess I will save it for a "treat" on occassion! :fork:

| Be careful with "made with Splenda" products -- since most of them can be made with both Splenda and a variety of other sweeteners. One recent run-down on the various sugar alcohols pointed out that some of them, malitol and sorbitol especially, really *do* partially metabolize once they hit the intestines and many people see a blood sugar spike. (And that's above and beyond the stomach problems most people experience with anything over 10-15g of the stuff.) Erythritol and zylitol, however, seem to act closer to what we've been told to expect from sugar alcohols - with less stomach upset and gas as well as no (or lower) impact on blood sugar. Wish I had my books to hand so I could cite my sources... Grr. Being a lending library in the service of spreading the low-carb word is sometimes problematic! If you do a search for Cheesecake Factory on various low-carb boards, you're likely to find an ingredients list somewhere....

| I did a search and found that the cheesecake only has 6 carbs per slice, but over 600 calories and almost 60 grams of fat. It doesn't sound like something to have very often! I found this information at another place: Calories 610 % Daily Value* Total Fat 57 g 88% Saturated Fat 29 g 145% Cholesterol 270 mg 90% Sodium 410 mg 17% Total Carbohydrates 39 g 13% Dietary Fiber 12 g 48% Sugars 4 g Protein 16 g I don't know if this means lots of sugar alcohols, or what. |

| I emailed Cheesecake Factory today and asked them about the sugar alcohols. Well, now let's see what they say! I know sometimes restaurants may take awhile answering emails but I will post what they say as soon as I hear from them!

| Well, Cheesecake Factory emailed me back today and said that their cheesecake has Malitol in it! (They advertise it as having Splenda ) Interesting, huh?

| It could very well have both. They would advertise the splenda part since it would be a big selling point that they use splenda instead of aspartame. They don't have to tell you everything in it, unless you ask... so they promote the part that sounds good.

That said, I think I'll stay away from any malitol cheesecakes. It was malitol-sweetened (mostly) low-carb products that stalled me out during my first Atkins run and eventually gave me serious (and weirdly unrecognized for what they were) cravings. YMMV, of course. But it's really good for me to know. Thanks for getting the info, Rhonda!

| You are welcome, Kim. I am staying away from sugar alcohols myself! I think it stalled my weight loss also!
