| From what I've heard and read, it was allowed without limits in previous editions of DANDR. Now, it's limited. Why? It is the high fat content? I love it as a satisfying dessert with a shake of cocoa in it. What is the "expert" opinion on heavy cream?

| No expert but I think its a YMMV thing. I cannot lose weight when i use heavy cream in my coffee and the occasional dessert. Just doesn't happen for me. Other people do just fine drinking it like it was milk. If you are closer to the second category than the first I say don't limit it. As long as you're not drinking a pint every day, |

| My understanding for the limitation, at least during induction, is that cream while lower in carbs than milk, still has lactose, a sugar. I have not had any problems just using it and counting the carbs. It is one of life's simple pleasures that I denied myself until I became enlightened with the joys and benefits of this WOE.

| Just an opinion, but I think it's not the fat content per se, but the high calorie content that can affect rate of loss--especially as the body gets lighter. Heavy cream is an easy food to overdo--at about 100 calories per 2 TBS. I find that I do better using half-n-half in coffee, and just avoiding whipped cream altogether. However, for someone just starting out, cream may be the saving grace, y'know? It adds helpful fat in a very palatable form. I really encourage people to use it. |

| I buy it by the quart. (Started under the 1998 edition, LOL!) But I must say, my intake varies. In the beginning, I used a LOT of it, but my use tapered off as I expanded my food choices. I use it in my coffee every day, and every so often it's part of a dessert. Sometimes I use it (half cream/half water) for milk in a recipe. I put some in my scrambled eggs. I make sour cream out of it with my kefir grains. I also believe it's a YMMV thing.

| Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll still use the yummy stuff, but limit my delicious dessert to once a week or so.

| I don't have a problem with cream affecting my weight loss/maintenance. I use only cream that is 100% cream. |
