Default Consumer Report Update: Liquid Splenda

I get about an email or PM per week asking me about where to get it. As you vets know, many of us have been involved in calling/emailing/petitioning Splenda to market their product in liquid form, to no avail.

Market forces, however, tend to provide a source where there is a demand. (Thank you, Adam Smith. ) Sources come and go, so I thought I'd provide an update on those I know of.

A US source is : www.sweetzfree.com. This is a concentrated product - 1/4 tsp = 1 cup of sugar in sweetening power. Currently $34 for a 2 oz bottle (includes shipping). Check the site, since there are some pretty odd ordering procedures.

Another US source is Zero Calorie Sweetener. Same concentration as sweetzfree, 1/4 tsp = 1 cup. Just email ZCS@juno.com. and then pay through paypal (also ZCS@juno.com). It's $22 per 2oz bottle (includes shipping). They're in Florida, you can order any time, and it is delivered quickly.

Another source is dalehoffman@optusnet.com.au. Also an email & paypal to the same address deal. His price is $62 (US funds) for a 6oz bottle of concentrate (includes shipping), approximately the same strength as above, but in metric. LOL! He's in Australia, you can order any time and, surprisingly, it doesn't take too awfully long to get here considering.

Also in Australia (but they don't ship outside that country) is www.passthetoast.com. This is a more dilute product (2 tsp = 1 cup sugar in sweetening power).

I have ordered and used the first three products and find them all to be fine, quality wise. I have not ordered sweetzfree since their new procedures. I never seem to be available during the occasional "windows" when ordering is allowed.

Hope this helps those who have inquired.

Please note: I am not suggesting, recommending, or warrantying anything here. I am answering numerous questions I get with the answers I have. We have been sharing info on various sources here for a few years now, but to make it clear to those who havent been around: These are just people that I know of who have a source of liquid splenda and are willing to sell it to other low carbers. These are not businesses and I'm sure they're not inspected by OSHA or the FDA or anything. So if that creeps you out, you shouldn't be ordering any.

Maggie,

I've read a lot about these liquid splenda products. When you them do you make up a cup of "sugar" by adding 1/4 t to 1 cup of water or do you use it in its concentrated form? Thought I would ask before I mess up.

Thanks

There's no hard & fast answer since it varies from recipe to recipe for me, ladybug. It depends on how much liquid the recipe calls for. I also sometimes add other ingredients to make up for the lack of "structure" that baking without sugar entails.

In most cases, you would just use the concentrated equivalent. I make a concentrated liquid spdenda syrup where 1 tsp equals 1/2 cup sugar. For baking, if I want to add some bulk that otherwise might be reduced by the lack of granular sugar, I add a little oat fiber. Adding water to the concentrate typically would drastically alter the results of the recipe.

As far as I know, the liquid splenda like Sweetzfree has zero carbs. It's the fillers used to bulk up the dry Splenda that give it its carb count. I love Sweetzfree and I'm so glad that I popped for the large bottle back before the ordering procedure changed. Fortunately, it takes a long time to use up the bottle and I'm not quite at the halfway mark yet on mine.

What's here is the sum total of information that I have on liquid splenda. I don't know of anywhere else to get it at all, much less in a more concentrated form.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Update: I've just gotten word that ZCS will not be in business anymore. They've allowed regular customers to place final orders for remaining inventory, but are not taking any more orders at this time.

As far as I know, the other sources listed are still available, but I haven't checked lately.

Thanks Maggie.

Sweetzfree has an open window this weekto order the liquid Splenda. I just ordered a bottle. Apparently the window is supposed to be open all week. Now's the time to order.

The vendor for liquid splenda in Florida is no longer available. I e-mailed them today and they said they don't do it anymore that they lost their supplier.

Yes. The folks in Florida are ZCS and they are no longer suppliers, as I posted in my update above.
