| So last Friday (Apr 28), DW, DD (18 mo.s) and I go to Maine for the weekend to visit my Mother for her birthday. Mom and Dad are visiting my brother and his fiancee in law school and my brothers and I are planning to surprise her in her hotel room with 58 balloons and more importantly, her three grandchildren. The fun for us begins at 3 am, when my daughter wakes us and I discover the bottom of her crib plastered in last nights' spinach et al. I wash off my daughter, change her out of her clothing and (BIG MISTAKE COMING) bring her to her mother still lying in our bed. Of course, while I'm changing the sheets and cleaning off her bed (and bringing it downstairs to the washing machine), my daughter has Act II of the purge and our sheets, blanket and comforter are all now foul. This initiates a family-wide cleanup effort that lasts past 4 am. Usually this wouldn't be too much of a problem, but we need to be up at 7 to catch our plane to Boston. We move along briskly to the airport, and none of us are feeling well. My working theory is bad mushrooms. We arrive at our gate just during boarding despite not checking any bags and next to no line in security. My brother, SIL, niece and nephew meet us at the airport to provide transport to Maine. On the way north, I do NOT feel like eating and DW has what she called a tri-state pukathon, leaving a little piece of her behind in every state. DD seems ok, but it obviously tired and doses for most of the journey. The actual surprise at the hotel was pulled off extraordinarily well. (My SIL is a master organizer). And mom is extremely surprised and enormously happy to see her grandparents. They were also all suitably impressed with my weight loss to this point. Unfortunately, the sleep deprivation and anticipation were too much for me to really enjoy the attention. You see, we had a double uber-secret surprise for Mom. On her birthday card (prepared by her grand-daughter) was attached a picture of her grand-daughter and another picture which looked like a picture of a comet taken from the Hubble space telescope. Instead, it was a picture of Mom's next grand-child taken via sonogram. In short, DW is 3 months pregnant. This is met with delight by my parents and overall, this part of the trip was worth all of the other hassles. Of course, that night, my DD once again loses it in her crib and again Sunday morning. The Food Poisoning theory is put to rest when yours truly gets sick on the plane ride home (and no, it wasn't motion sickness - symptoms lasted until Thursday).

| Thank you all. As of the start of the month, I can finally tell people and I've been too sick to go out and spend time with my friends, so still most people don't know! With y'all, I wanted to share the frustration of getting sent to Popeye's to satisfy my DW's biscuit cravings and examining the entire menu to find there was absolutely nothing I could eat! (when she's having a hard time keeping any food at all down, it's hard to deny her any particular craving.)

| Your story made me smile. I found it humorous until I started to realize how sick you must have been. Sorry about your bout with sickness. Congratulations on the new baby! That's great!
