I'm not doing the Atkin's diet now but have before so I will help you the best I can. Defiantely recommend getting the book though because my brain is a bit fuzzy but you sounded so despertate I wanted to help anyway I could. The first stage is nothing but meats, veggies and cheese (may want to check on cheese though) food groups. What I remember is that you have to stay within 20 carbs per day for a few weeks during 1st phase. Drink lots of water so you can flush out the fat, carb bloat and any water retention because the first few weeks it comes off pretty fast. Hope I helped some at least to get you started. Here is the official atkins diet site SJ. http://atkins.com/ Good luck and I can't wait to hear about all your success on your weightloss journey.

You're going to get a lot of "Go buy DANDR" (which is good advice)

But, for short and simple.

Drink nothing but Water (and lots of it)

Avoid Sugars (in all forms) and Starches.
Don't eat any fruit.
Read labels. If it has more than 3-4 net carbs, don't eat it.
(Net Carbs = total carbs minus dietary fiber carbs - induction is 20 or fewer net carbs a day)

Do EAT - all the meat you want; A good size salad every day; Eggs - lots of eggs. WATER, lots and lots of water - Not diet soda, not coffee, WATER

Actually, induction is meat and eggs to satisfy your hunger, 3 cups of salad each day, or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of acceptable veggie, plus 3-4 oz of cheese. No cottage cheese. The book has more details about what veggies are acceptable, or you can find it on the Atkins website. No sugar of any kind. Mayo, butter, or non-transfat margarine, bacon, etc., are acceptable, as is olive oil, coconut oil, etc. Flaxseed meal for fiber, and it's great in the one minute muffin. Water, at least 8 glasses a day, more if you are so inclined. Many of us try to drink half our body weight in oz of water (ie, if you weigh 200, you drink 100 oz of water). Avoid caffeine, although many have lost a lot of weight continuing to drink the caffeine. Sweeten with Splenda, Sweet N Low, or stevia, no aspartame. Avoid sodas; you're better off with water.

I highly recommend you get the book and read it. I bought mine at WalMart for under $7.

Wishing you much success on your low carb journey.

Welcome, chickpea.

Can't add much to what's been said, but I hope you'll make yourself at home here.

welcome chickpea.

before you get a chance to get the book (which is a must-have if you want to make a go of it), you can hop on over to the atkins site induction section, which does have the very basics.

the one thing that i would add is that, although atkins says various products are ok for induction (like the bars), i would stay away from them as much as possible. the bars are one of the most common sources of mysterious stalls newbies encounter...the shakes tend to cause fewer problems than the bars, but generally speaking, the more natural your food, the better you will do. so i would save shakes for occassional/emergency situations, and forget the bars completely, at least for induction.

you will find tons of great help right here as well, so visit us often. and congratulations on your decision to get healthy!

Queen Mama -

FWIW, I've eaten cottage cheese a LOT throughout my entire low-carb diet. As a matter of fact, whenever I stall (briefly), I go back to eating a half-cup of cottage cheese for breakfast and it seems to "kickstart" the weight loss for me. I know it's not "by the book" but it does work for me...

As always, YMMV

I never had problems with cottage cheese, either, but it's not on the induction list, so perhaps it's better for a newbie to forego it until the 2 weeks is up. Personally, I love it, and have a really hard time with portion control! I like it with a dash of cinnamon, or a tsp of sf jelly, or with tons of chopped green and red bell peppers and green onion, and chopped tomatoes all mixed up in it. Yummy stuff.
