Default Ambiguous carb counts

Hi there!

The carb counts in FitDay and the Atkins carb counter book are WAAAY different a cup of cabbage on FD is 5 carbs, in the book it's 2. I'm assuming FD doesn't subract fiber to give Net Carbs. Is that correct? If so I'm getting no where near the 30 I thought I was! I'm barely getting the 20 I need!! Yikes! What veggies are going to seriously up my carbs? I thought brocoli had 5 carbs a cup and that was incorrect also! Geez. I tell ya! When I finally ACTUALLY want to UP my carbs!

Thanks in advance you all!

Tia, I have found varying carb counts in different data bases. What I do is use the USDA nurtient database as my primary source. Here is the link
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
They list 1 cup of shredded raw cabbage as having 4.06 carbs with 1.8 grams of fiber. Therefore for counting purposes it has 2.26 net carbs and broccoli has 6.04 carbs per cup of chopped broccoli with 2.4 grams of fiber or 3.64 net carbs. You will see that this database has complete nutrient info not just carbs. You can plug in any veggie and get the carb count.

No fitday does not subtract fiber but if you look in the totals box it does give the total carbs and the net carbs so you can subtract yourself if you choose to keep using it.

I'm with Henry here. USDA is my primary reference, and I do the math myself ... if I'm so inclined.

Half the time I'm more Bernstein than Atkins and I count carbs as carbs, whatever their source may be. For Atkins, I find that subtracting the fiber count gives a good idea of the net carbs. As Noel said, Fitday will break out the fiber carbs and all you have to do is simple subtraction.

HTH.

Yeah doing the subtraction myself is fine. That's not an issue. The thing was I didn't REALIZE that it wasn't subtracting the fiber all of this time that I have been using it so that means that my carb count has been a lot lower than I was thinking it was. Which means that I have NO idea how to get my carb count up to 30! Or even 25 for that matter.
