Red face KK out of business because of LC?

I just read in the local paper that Krispy Kreme isn't doing all that well and is losing a ton of money. It read that in 2003 during (the start of) the "Low Carb Craze" their sales were at all time low!
I thought that was interesting!!
I love KK's so I have to say that one less temptation is fine by me.

While I'd like to think Americans are eating fewer doughnuts, I think Krispy Kreme ran into trouble mostly because of mismanagement--perhaps expanding too rapidly. Like the waistlines of its customers.

hmmm.... I'm not sure. I get the sense that the mainstream thinks LC is a bit passe. I don't get the same sense of scorn about LC as there was 7 or 8 years ago, but I don't think it's particularly gaining much ground lately either. None of the other junk food manufacurer' are having problems that I know of, so I don't think we can call it a trend.

It's more likely mismanagement than lack of customers due to low carb. So, just because a company has financial problems doesn't necessarily mean that it's due to people abandoning their products for low carb products, or that the country in general is more health conscious. With the rate of Type-2 diabetes escalating, even among children, it just shows that people do not watch what they eat, and a lot of those people are eating all those doughnuts.

A lot of people who got caught up in the "low carb craze" have abandoned it because they didn't understand the concept. I suspect they are now eating the Krispy Kreme doughnuts!

Remember, too, that a lot of low carb companies went belly-up, too, when the "craze" died down, and when we discovered that the so-called low carb products weren't all that good or good for us. Much of it was mismanagement and high expectations that the "craze" would go on for a long, long time. Case in point, Keto products were exceptionally good, but due to mismanagement, they are no longer in business, and we don't have access to those products anymore. (I loved their faux Rice Krispies. I would put the DaVinci's Toasted Marshmallow syrup and cream on them, and have a pseudo-Rice Krispies treat. It was really good!)

Nita, you're makin my mouth water!!!!! Those faux rice krispies WERE good!!!! DANG!!!!

I've had ONE KK in my entire life. It was good, but the heartburn afterward was terminal!!!

I'm sad to think the LC "craze" is over. I don't know how many times I've tried to find LC things in the store that are no longer available. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. It's frustrating. (but there's always netrition to fall back on.)

Hopefully there are still some longterm studies still going on and the results will finally give LC some mainstream creedance.

There was a krispy kreme in my area that closed not too long ago, I think it had more to do with them not being able to compete with Dunkin Donuts than anything to do with diets.

I guess that I was wishfull thinking, I don't think that there demise was souly because of the Low Carb Craze, but it was nice to know that it has something to do with it.
When I lived in Florida over the month there was a Low Carb store in a plaza near my condo (in Tampa) and I was escatic to see it there. So I guess in another sense is good to know that it isn't that much of a craze afterall, and that low carb actually helped someone start and better yet KEEP a business running.

that's too bad, we don't have one here in Buffalo. And I really liked the crackers that they had there too. I might look them up on line and see if she can send me some again. They were great with cream cheese. They had seasame seeds on them and they were wonderful. I don't even see the low dressings out anymore...I am going to look and hope that they still have the bbq sause out still. I liked that on my chicken,,,.,,,,
