    Question I'm I safe?...

Most likely the worst time to post the e-coli out break...

eatting the insides of a taco? Like Taco Bell? I went to Wendy instead and got 2 jr bacon cheese burgers (tossed the buns) and ate them like a taco. But, friend got 2 taco's from TB and I thought I would put this out there and see if they are safe?
Like the supremes?:cook: here is the site.

    Please advise!
    Thanks!

It appears that the problem with the e-coli outbreak is most likely with produce. No matter how much produce is rinsed, the only way to kill the germ is to cook it! Who wants cooked lettuce on their taco?

I would suppose that if you asked for the taco without the lettuce, you'd probably be safe, as long as the meat is completely cooked.

When the outbreak was from spinach, there wouldn't have been a problem if people had cooked the spinach, but eaten raw, no matter how much it was washed, the e-coli was still there.

From what I've learned from past outbreaks, e-coli is a surface germ, so if you have your steak seared well on the outside, it's ok to eat it rare, because the germ is not inside the meat; however, with ground meat, the surface has been cut up and is now all throughout the meat, and so your hamburger MUST be thoroughly cooked, with no pink, in order to be safe.

Our nearest Taco Bell is at least 50 miles away, and I usually avoid fast food places anyway, so I'm not worried. But it does worry me that so many restaurants use pre-chopped lettuce in their salad bars. There just isn't any way to get e-coli off lettuce, so I guess it's just a crap shoot, you never know what produce might have it, and the only way to be 100% safe is to grow your own!
