For the first time since June 1 I ate something that was not low carb. It was not a huge cheat, but I feel really worried that I may slip now. What I ate was 3 of the tiny cheese crackers (you know, like Cheez Its). I know it could have been worse, and I was able to stop myself after 3. They tasted r e a l l y good though. Should I be worried about falling off?

BTW, I counted the carbs as 1 per cracker (I was at my SIL house so I did not have the box).

Thanks for not laughing at me {well, not laughing too hard anyway}.

Susan,
Don't worry about it. At least it didn't send you reeling into an uncontrolled binge. Just do your program and drink a little extra water, things should be fine. I had a WHOLE piece of wedding cake last weekend and it didn't damage me too badly. I am a bit stalled right now, but I will get past it. Hang in there.

My advice: forgive yourself, take it in stride, and get back to eating correctly!

You can do it!

Relax. You'll be fine.

Remember that this is a way of life and the road of life has speedbumps and potholes - even detours.

I've had maybe 6 hershey's kisses since 1998. This is a food that was like heroin to me pre-lifechange. I used to keep them in all kinds of places, since they were a sure cure for my sugar crashes - and, of course, the cause of the next one. LOL! About a year and a half into this way of living, I wondered if I could eat just one. Well, it turns out that I could. It didn't turn into a binge and I didn't go into "seeking" mode.

They were in a big bowl at the security desk at court where I have to go several times a day and they didn't "call out to me" as they might have in the past. Hell, I can remember a time when the only deterrent to me taking a handful every time I went by was consideration for others who might want some too!

The thing is that, as long as a small deviation doesn't become an excuse for pulling the car off the road and putting it up on blocks, you just keep rolling along.

Sorry about all the automotive references - I just washed my baby down. :-)

Thanks Barb, Emelia and Maggie. I guess I over reacted. I have just been able to do so well on this WOE that I am afraid it will slip away. Past conditioning coming back to haunt me I guess. On the diets I have been on a cheat was license to over eat everything in site. So far today I have not pigged out on anything "illegal". I guess I am safe for today. My DH informed me that I ate a few more than 3 of the crackers :-(. I guess the alcohol I was drinking at the time fogged my memory a bit.

Nice car Maggie. Pretty red like your hair :-)!

Regardless of how many you had, at least you stopped before you had the whole box.

However, you might want to consider skipping the alcohol for a little while. It can harm your weight loss efforts just as much as carbs. And if you're having enough that it makes you forget how many crackers you're eating, that's not good!

Also, I know when I have a couple of drinks, it ALWAYS makes me get the munchies and then I'm much more likely to cave into cravings.

Stick to water, crystal light, tea, and even a few diet sodas now and then. Much better than alcohol.

Good luck!

A serving of cheez-its is about 26 of the little crackers and has a little under 20 g of carbs. Your couple of small crackers didn't hurt a thing. Sometimes I will put5-6 on my salad for croutons! My kids love cheez-its especially the garlic & parmesean flavor so I buy them regulary and occasionally indulge in a few. Just don't forget to count them! Of course our carbs should come from real food (like veggies, etc.) but the rare cracker, for me, is okay and doesn't cause cravings.
