I don't know much about hoodia, although I'm aware there has been a lot of hype for it. My impression was that it is another one of those "drain your pocketbook" supplements; but I really don't know much about it. What is it supposed to do?

I've heard some about this; it's made from an African cactus that suppresses appetite. They break off pieces and chew it. There was a 20-20 show on it or something.

From what little I've read, it appears the plant itself does suppress appetite...However, it's hard to say if the supplements available on the market are processed in such a way that they maintain those properties, or if they are more of the "draining the weight of your wallet" variety of supplements. There's some debate in this area.

For me, it's a "watch and see" kind of issues.

I saw something about it on tv too. They said that hoodia is very rare so it's unlikely that the herb is really in the supplement. Instead, it's what they called an "ECA Stack" meaning Ephedra, Caffeine, and Aspirin.

Personally, hunger isn't that much of a problem for me as long as I stay low-carb. Now, if someone would invent a supplement that would take care of my "mental" hunger (you know -- the one that makes you feel like you really NEED to eat a piece of that Boston cream pie, even though you're not hungry), I'd try it in a minute!
