Hello all. I started Atkins the 1st week of June and it took almost 1 mn. to loose 3 lbs. I was at a stall as well. Well, it is now 3 mns and I have lost a total of 10 lbs. I am not sure if this is a good thing, but I am getting a bit discouraged. I have not gone to the next phase as I am not sure I am ready to. I have many lbs to go but I feel I am at a "stall" as well. Trying to get into ketosis is terrible. Any words of encouragement will surely be appreciated.

Hi Otherside! Welcome to LCe. Sorry to hear you are having a slow go with it. I do sympathize, believe me. Perhaps you could post a few days of menus for us to take a look at. Also, tell us how much you are wanting to lose, and height and age. There are some really great vets that can help spot a problem, so that is where you should really begin. Also, are you still at induction level on your carbs? How much water are you drinking, use any bars or shakes? We'll try to help ya out ![]() HTH Shelley sg *********** "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Hi, Other! ![]() I've read (a while ago so I'm sketchy about the details) in the Atkins book, where he talks about a yeast intolerance or something to that effect... it has to do with your body's inability to metabolize vinegar and cheeses, and such. That may be something you need to look into. Also, Protein Power (my program of choice) has many suggestions about how to optimize your metabolizm. <the PP authors also endorse The Zone> It's WELL worth the investigation... I've been on the "yo-yo" so many times in my life with "diets", and have finally come to terms with the fact that LCing is NOT a diet to go on to lose weight. It's a way of life! You're cheating yourself if you look at it as just a weight-loss program, because a LC diet can do so much MORE for you! It can lower your cholesterol... it can give you energy like you wouldn't believe, and it can PROLONG your life! So, try different things until you find a program that works for YOU-- above all, DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED AND GIVE UP! This is WORTH doing, and it's worth doing LONG -TERM!

Yes, posting your menus is a good idea - perhaps someone can spot some hidden carbs or offer specific tips on how to speed up the weight loss, if needed. I'm a slow loser, too... :] I've read many times that losing weight slowly is more conducive to maintaining the weight loss in the long term (I sure hope they're right, LOL!). But, hey - losing is losing! right? I'm much better off losing 2 to 3 lbs a month than standing still or gaining, which is what I'd be doing otherwise. And, we get to eat pretty nice foods, too, for being in weight loss mode. Anyway, you now know you have company in the slow lane! Lots of us are there with you. If you're so inclined, I posted a thread called The Slow Poke in the Newbies and Induction forum. You'll see, if you read it, that others are coping with similar circumstances. The important thing is not to get discouraged or give up. Eating healthy foods is so important for so many reasons besides just weight loss. ~~~Teelbee "remember, amateurs built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic." 174 (Mar. 2002 highest weight) 164 (Jan. 2003, begin LC) 164/135.5/137-134

Hi Otherside, and welcome to the boards! I've been LC-ing for three months, and although my metabolic resistance isn't as high as yours seems to be, there have been times when the weight would NOT shift. This way of eating is different to low calorie dieting in that stalls and plateaux are more common. HOWEVER, have you been measuring yourself? Keep a little journal of measurements. I started doing this weekly, although as time goes on, the inches drop more slowly an monthly intervals would make more sense. You are probably losing inches even if the pounds are 'sticky'. Are your clothes looser these days? Measure the tops of your arms, under the bust, around the waist, hips, thighs, calves - er, you get the idea. I've lost 5" off my hips. Getting into a smaller bra size is a big ambition with me, but I started out bursting out of the ones I had and now I have to use the tightest hooks, so I'm hoping it won't be too long. One thing April said on these boards which I really relate to is that if you quit now, by Christmas you will look back, having gained back some of all of your weight loss and tell yourself, 'If I had continued, I would have lost another 10 pounds (or whatever) and lots of inches, and be feeling much better'. Another thing, how much weight do you have to lose? If it's not much, you won't lose nearly as fast as those of us with serious poundage to shift. HTH. And good luck!!! Clare
