| I have been maintaining my weight for about two years now, and I have a question... From the time I was losing in the beginning, on up until now, faithfully, without fail, every single time I eat beef I gain weight. I'm talking about steak without the trimmings, or beef without potatoes, etc. In other words, doing it exactly right. I wonder if anyone else has this problem, and if anyone can explain it? It doesn't make sense, because beef is carb free.

| Well, those who have been on this board for a LOOONNNNGGG time might remember the (inconclusive) poll I did based on the Eat Right for Your Blood Type diets by Peter J. D'Adamo ( I think I did this about 4.5 years ago, but I'm not sure). When reading this book, I felt his overall message was off, but there were MANY points that seemed to ring true for my dh (who is type A) and myself (who is type O). Supposedly, type A's are supposed to refrain from eating much beef, and my dh can attest that when he eats it even moderately, he gains weight. So, that's one theory (what's your blood type?). Another might be that you reap immediate muscle-memory benefits when eating beef. According to my former trainer, some people tend to restore muscle rather quickly when eating beef (he required it at least 2x per week) and as we all know, muscle weighs more than fat. Any possibility this is going on? Finally, when you say that you "gain weight" is it a TRUE weight gain -- still there a week later? Or are you talking only of the immediate result on the scale (i.e. you eat steak for supper and the next morning you're a pound heavier). If so, I would NOT take this seriously at all! If the weight disappears as quickly as it comes (in other words, 3 days later it is gone again), it is not TRUE weight gain but simply a normal variance in your weight and I would not worry about it. That's all the theories I have.
