Default Body Fat Scale - great deal

I was just shopping on Amazon, an their Gold Box deal this AM is a body fat scale for $17.99. I can't vouch for it because I just ordered it, but it seemed like a good deal - down from something like $90, and goes up to about 330 lbs. Thought I'd share the info for anyone interested:

Mada, I would be very interested to see how it works for you. I have always been skeptical of body fat scales as I would like to know how IT knows how to break down the weight. Still, this does sound like a good deal and it would be fun to compare it to other forms of body fat measuring... Let us know what you think!

Summer - I totally understand your confusion! I had to ask my DH if he knew how they worked, and he did know and explained it in simple terms. Here's a great article I found that explains it more in-depth, and gives great tips on getting accurate, consistent results:

http://www.sport-fitness-advisor.com/bodyfatscales.html

Hope this helps you (and others) understand better. It sure helped me!

I'll report back after it comes on how I like it (although I am a little apprehensive to see the actual number! )

(Oh, and BTW... the link for the scale no longer works because it was the "deal of the day", and now it's something else... for anyone who's trying the link).

now, if someone still happened to be looking for a body-fat scale, they could still use the amazon searchbox that's now on the forum home page.

see how helpful i am?

it looks like a cool scale. hope you like it!

Actually, it's not amazon that benefits. It's LCE that benefits from members using the LCE search-box to look for items Amazon has for sale.

When we link through to Amazon from LCE, it helps support the site.

I always try to remember to go to Amazon (my home away from home, LOL! - been there since they were sending out travel cups to customers to thank them for being early adopters) through the link from here.

You're right, Maggie. (Although when we spend money at Amazon, they do reap some reward )

Maybe I missed this somewhere, but are all LCE members aware that if we start our Amazon search at the LCE search-box then the site is supported? If it's nnly stated on the LCE homepage, maybe there should be info in the forums, too. I have LCE in my Favorites list to go directly to the forums... I usually bypass the homepage (sorry Andrea).

Anyway - thanks for the tip! Making a mental note to always start my Amazon shopping from here.

My scale came today! Will be testing it out in the morning. I'll report back on how I liked it (although I may not be sharing the %! )

I used my new scale this morning and really, really like it.... although it took a few attempts and some reading to figure out how it worked. (Really should have done the reading the night before - it was pretty chilly standing in my kitchen in my undies since it snowed here in MT yesterday! LOL!)

Anyway, this thing gives you a TON of information, and can store your info in memory for up to 6 (I think) people as well. It takes into account your height, activity level, age, gender and whether or not you're an athlete, then calculates your weight, body fat %, water, calories needed and a few other things I still need to read up on.

I like it for the fact that I now have a new number I can use to track my progress... so if the weight number on the scale doesn't move, I can look to the body fat % and watch that move (as I lose fat and gain muscle).

If you can find a great deal like I did, I highly recommend it!
