Hi all,
When I first started participating in these forums, I asked when people started to feel the shift in thinking from "this is a new diet" to "this is a new way of life." I think I'm getting there! I ate a high-carb meal a couple days ago, and could hardly wait to get back on plan so I would feel better. Last night, I looked at all the things in my cupboard that I had saved "until I can eat them again" (e.g., marshmallows, cereal, baking mixes, etc.) and realized, I don't think I'm ever going to want to eat them again. I'm not waiting to "finish" my diet--this is just how I eat now. One bag has already gone to the neighbor's, and more will be going to the soup kitchen as soon as I run the errand. It feels great!

Aderyn-

I was saving a bunch of stuff in my cupboard, too. I had cake mixes, frosting, crackers, cans of beans and corn, bags of rice. I bundled it all up in a box and took it to the local food shelf. I don't anticipate returning to my old ways. Now instead of full cupboards, I have a fridge full of fresh food! Feels good to find something that works so well, doesn't it?? I love this WOE!

Cheers!

Congrats on your "mentality shift". I, too, took a bag of stuff to the soup kitchen. It is a little harder for me because my DH still eats some of that kind of stuff but not too much.
I LOVE this WOE!!!

Thanks for the reminder guys. I need to give away my stuff too. I've been saving all these bottle sauces, cans of corn, bags and bags of pasta. They all need to go. It'll be good to have some extra space for other things!

I got THREE BAGS full of stuff out of my cupboards two weeks ago, and another couple will be going out this weekend! Cake mixes, grits, cornflake crumbs, Grapenuts cereal - OUT, I say, OUT!

Boy it feels good too.

Yep, we did a kitchen clean out about 1 week into the plan. DH took a few days to make that same mental shift, but then he got brutal with the pasta Everything in the house is 'legal' now. We did adjust the cupboards a little when my two teen sons were with us for the summer, but their snacks were not even a temptation to us and they LOVED the LC meals!

I wish I could get rid of all the stuff in my kitchen but I also have non lcers living here and they would throw a fit! I do insist on anything that could be a temptation to me is not allowed in the house...I have not had a potatoe here in months..the bread they eat is not a problem and I have almost converted my 15 y/o son to this woe! Dh still is a hold out although he is impressed lately with the fast that I was able to come off blood sugar and blood pressure meds!

I want to congratulate you all on this mental and kitchen shift. You can NOT make this a WOL if you hang onto the old "normal" stuff. I threw out (gave away) illegal stuff that I would be tempted by in the very beginning, because I knew right there and then that I would be doing this for the rest of my life. My DH is thin and can handle high carb eating, although I know in the long run, this too is harming him. I still have a ways to go as far as my recipe experiments go in finding things that would be acceptable to him. I will get there. I have traded whole grain bread for the white processed crap for him and he's okay with that. Next step is to try to get him to like whole grain pastas. We'll see.......

You see.....this is not just an eating plan for losing weight. It is one that gives tremendous health benefits and I want that for him too. I want him around for a long time......my life partner. So.....the adventure continues as does the journey. He is eating a bit healthier by default inspite of his M&M peanuts....

That is sort of what I am doing with my family...but I have to resort to trickery otherwise they refuse..they are eating much lower carb then ever before and do not even know it...my 15 y/o son has went from 218 to 199 and thinks its just getting taller that has done it! Whatever works! My dh is also slim but has heart disease and would really benefit from this wol but so far is not interested!
