Hi--Posted this in cooking but no response. I want to get some cold breakfast cereal. Can you folks give me an idea which ones you've tried and how you like them? Also, has anyone tried the Atkins bun mix? Was it any good?

TIA,

Some people make a hot flax cereal. I don't have details. Many cereals are high in carbs, so you would need to be careful.

I don't use the Atkins bake mixes, but I think some people like them and some don't.

Here is a link to "Revolution Rolls" that are supposed to be low-carb http://www.lowcarber.org/recipes/bread108.html

I've made the Atkins buns. They are nothing like you may be expecting. Not at all like regular hamburger buns. They are very dense. Hard to describe, but I liked them. they made me think more of old fashioned southern corn bread. I couldn't use them for buns, but slathered in butter they were good. So only buy if that sounds good to you.

Love the Flax o Meal & also make my own hot cereal. I've never tried Atkins new cold cereals. Hope I could help a little.

I bought it at healthquest, its called roasted hazelnut hot cereal by carbsense 3g per 1/2 cup servings i wasn't crazy about it at first so added 2 splendas and a touch of sugarfree vanila syrup and about 2 teaspoons heavy whipping cream ohh it is pretty darn good can't wait to have again tomarrow morning it's a nice change from eggs anyways hope this helps.

Low Carb Success has some granola that I like. It works out to 2 effective carbs per 1/2 cup. Be advised that 10 of the "non-impact" carbs are Maltitol. This does affect some, so YMMV.

Back To Nature has Hi Lo cereal. This has 7 effective carbs per 1/2 cup serving. I get this at Whole Foods.

I've never tried any of the bun mix, but instead buy LC ones at WalMart. They are "Healthy Life" hamburger buns and honestly I can't tell the difference between these and 'regular' buns. They are not expensive but at 11g of carbs for each bun, they certainly aren't for induction, some people even on OWL, and definitely not an 'everyday' item. But hey, once in a while I can actually eat the bun with my burger. To keep them from going bad I just keep the whole pack in the freezer and take one out when I need it, leaving the rest frozen. I did like the Atkins bake-mix recipe for muffins and I've heard that the muffin mixes are good but quite expensive. Cold cereal? I haven't had any and don't know of any good ones.

If you want a GREAT cold cereal (or dessert--depending on the time o day) try Sharron's Pumpkin Granola recipe on the cooking board--it is simply excellent--and keeps you full a looong time, especially if you top it with a bit of cream!
