| Thanks! I just took measurements (waist, biceps, thigh, chest) again. Absolutely no change from when I started, which makes me wonder where in the world the weight I'm losing came from! Granted, I'm still using the measurements from a different weight loss plan that included weight lifting, but most of my flab is in the chest and waist. I am 9 pounds lighter and none of the big measures have reduced. Hmmm. Any ideas? KEn |

| Hi Ken, When you say you're using measurements from a different weight loss plan, do you mean you're using measurements that were taken quite some time ago, when you last started a new eating plan? If so, I'm wondering if it's possible you added some size since then, and actually HAVE lost inches now, putting you back to where you were when you initally measured? (I know that's a confusing question, but I suspect you are an engineer, so you'll get it). Another possibility is this mysterious delay factor some people (like me) seem to have, where the results of my efforts (whether valiant or poor) don't show up right away. My whole weight loss experience seemed to go like that, with the most bizarre alignment between pounds lost and inches lost. For me, the scale moved fairly consistently with no real pauses, but the inches seemed to go in rather amazing spurts. I might lose 12 pounds and see no reduction in measurements at all, but then suddenly drop a whole size. Then lose two more pounds and poof - down another size. Then lose 15 more pounds and no change in inches for weeks, but then suddenly (and when I say suddenly, I mean almost literally overnight), a whole inch gone off my waist. I can't explain it, but it was as if my body was "silently" reconfiguring itself, keeping the results hidden till everything had gelled into place. Sort of like the blossoms coming out on the trees now, where you know they've been forming for weeks, but it SEEMS like they bloomed overnight. Anyway, I can't explain where your -9 pounds came from, but wouldn't be surprised if you find that come next Tuesday or so,your jeans are "suddenly" much looser. In any event, congratulations - it sounds like you're doing great. Sky Atkins since 8/02 196/under 150/144 |

| ken, i tell ya: the two don't sync up, i swear. you'll see. next time the scale slows on it's wild careen downward, pull out the tape measure and see what i'm talking about.

| Thanks for those posts! That really gives me something to look forward to, eases my mind about burning muscle, and as usual, generally encourages me. Have I mentioned how great you all are? Ken |

| Glad to hear you're enjoying your time here, Ken. I know there can be lots to be nervous about just starting out. I remember I kept thinking, "Ok, what's the catch? This is too easy. I'm not suffering enough. Something must be amiss." What was amiss was that I felt like I needed to suffer. From everything I've heard, it seems like you're doing stuff "right," and I suspect, as time goes on, you'll begin to trust that. If the trends are right and you feel good, you're probably doing well. But I don't blame ya for lookin' for the fine print, man.
