Default 9 Lbs Down But Measurements Still Same?

I just checked all my body measures (my wife did, actually). After 11 days on the diet (still in induction), I have lost 9 pounds (excellent), but no inches. Now I'm no doctor, but it has me wondering where those 9 pounds came from! I supposed it could havbe been intra-muscular or sub-muscular. In that case, I probably took the pounds from the right place, since deep-in fat is usually more dangerous. But how do I know I'm not burning muscle? That's my only worry.

I can't remember, Ken, are you exercising at all? Or just dieting? (forgive me... I read a lot of posts)

I believe from what I've read that if you're feeding your body properly (which you are) and exercising (especially resistance training, which builds muscle) your body will burn fat.

As far as the 9 pounds... in the beginning, some of that is going to be water weight (like it or not) but that can't go on forever (or Maggie would be completely dehydrated with her 50lb water weight loss!) The rest? I'm no expert, but I'd say that you've lost fat from all over, not one specific place, so you're not seeing any inches lost, per se.

I'm sure that there are others out there who have better answers than I. I just don't think you have to worry about muscle loss if you're exercising.

Absent some medical condition, you need not worry about muscle loss on a low carb diet. Unlike many low cal diets, we get a more than sufficient amount of protein. If done correctly (and from what I've read, that's exactly what you are doing) muscle wasting has never been shown to be a complication of a low carb diet.

Thanks all. I'm getting some exercise, but not doing as much as I should probably. Water weight, wow. As much as I'm drinking, that's surprising, but it would explain why I can't seem to pee clear. Sorry, TMI.

Also, while this makes no sense logically, drinking plenty of water helps you flush out water weight. I don't know why, and somehow, I suspect you'll want to know why. Got the vibe you're a "why" kinda guy. Maybe you'll find out and post it here. But I have found this to be the case, both personally and from observations.

Those bodies can be weird sometimes.
