The "fat fast" is supposed to force metabolically resistant people into lipolysis. Since my ketostix never showed more than trace, and for eons now have showed nothing at all, I am thinking about trying this for a few days. Has anyone here tried it before? Feedback?

Thanks,
Aderyn

Hi, Aderyn.

Since you're asking for feedback, may I gently suggest that you give the program a chance? I mean, for two full weeks, stick to meat, fish fowl, eggs, cream and lots of green veggies - and of course water? I mean to go two full weeks without any tacos, lc ice cream or value meals, as you have reported in only the last 5 days, and get your 5 extra carbs a day each week from more veggies and maybe some carefully measured nuts or low glycemic fruit?

Your eating choices are your personal choices, and you are entitled to eat anything you want. I'd be the first person to pick up arms to defend your right to do so. But most of what you've reported in the last week is anything but helpful if your desire is to get back into ketosis.

I do not saying this unkindly. I say this as a person who was resistant for a number of reasons and who has watched probably hundreds of people's experiences with this way of eating.

Just some food for thought. (0 carbs per serving)

Aderyn,

I've also read (and experienced) that ketositx won't report ketosis if you're drinking a lot of water. The ketones are so diluted that they don't show up on the sticks. So as long as you're losing weight and/or inches, I wouldn't worry so much about those sticks.

As a matter of fact, after the first 2 bottles and weight and inches lost (proof to me that Atkins was working) I stopped buying the things. I'd rather spend my $12 on 2 steaks for me and my DH!

So that's my 2¢ from a 2nd timer and newbie to the site.

Getting a positive with your ketostix while your drinking huge amounts of water is difficult and takes good timing and experimenting. You could try drinking less water to see what happens.

But assuming you are out of ketosis, which is probably the case if you've been eating non-legal foods lately (I don't know that whole story), you should probably go back to eating only induction type foods for a while, then get back on track with OWL

Perhaps I should repeat, and clarify, my question.

I am asking if anyone has ever tried the Atkins "fat fast" and whether anyone has any feedback on that, specifically.

I appreciate your other comments and support, but am trying specifically to find out about the "fat fast."

Thanks in advance,
Aderyn

Aderyn,

I have tried it. I worked for me to lose some weight at the time, but I honestly can't recall if it helped with the stall I was in at the time. It was quite a while ago...

I actualy quit mine earlier than planned. It had an interesting side effect for me. I had very vivid and disturbing dreams. I've been tempted to try it again, just to see if it was a coincidence or not.

For whatever it's worth, my understanding is that this, or something like it has been used for a long time by fighters and wrestlers who need to quickly get down to their weight bracket. I have no first hand knowledge of this, it is just what I was told by someone who used to be on a H.S. wrestling team.

Thanks, Jim! If I decide to give it a shot, I'll let you know if it seems to affect my dreams! I haven't decided for sure whether to try it, as I believe Maggie makes a good point about making sure I have been consistent for at least a couple weeks as part of determining whether more radical measures are called for(although I have been under 30 carbs, and nearly always under 25, virtually all of the time except for 1 day in 6 weeks, so it is hard to think that inconsistency is the primary source of my extended stall).

Aderyn - I think the reason people are quick to suggest other methods of jumpstarting your system is because the "fat fast" is not good for you. It should not be used to combat something that may actually be in your control. It should be used only as a very last resort after every other thing has been tried for at least 1 week each.

This is supposed to be a new, healthy way of life - not a quick fix for vanity purposes.

Ketostix don't always show progress - some people never show, but are still losing weight. I rarely ever show more than trace, and sometimes I'm completely beige, but while being there I'm still buying smaller clothes, and the scale is still moving. The only time I can show more than trace, or nothing, is about 2 hours after an intense workout.

Please consider listening to the people posting their opinions and suggestions here - some of them have been doing this for years, and have run in to every complication known to man, and can suggest 100% healthy ways to get around stalls (even if you're actually stalled due to no fault of your own).

Good luck.

By the way, if you're still at 25-30 carbs per day for 6+ weeks as you indicated, perhaps your body has gone into starvation mode, and is now holding on to everything you're giving it, because you're not feeding it enough.

Two weeks of induction should be 20 carbs, the third week should be 25 carbs, the 4th week should be 30 carbs, etc. Carbs should be added in the form of veggies first, nuts second, etc.

JMHO.

Don't get hung up on those sticks! I barely show more than a trace myself and I'm losing weight and inches. I don't put too much stock in those things. If everything else is going okay (your losing pounds or inches) I would just ditch the sticks and not worry about the "Fat Fast" stuff.
