Default Atkins Bars

Hi everyone!! I just discovered this site after a web search for low carb recipes. Okay now after reading a while, a BIG whistle blew in my head when I read the "truth" about the low carb count on the Atkins bars....THIS IS WHY I LOSE SO MUCH MORE ON THE WEEKENDS!!!! I eat the bars for breakfast at work M-F and have eggs on the weekends!!! WOW!!

So now that I've discovered that and planning on giving them all away at work tomorrow - what the heck do I eat for breakfast at work? I need something quick and convenient. I do the hardboiled eggs for lunch or snack so not those...I've tried some quiches but I don't think they will travel well in my desk drawer...

Any novel ideas my new friends??

Jen, look in the Low Carb Cooking Forum, you'll find Maggie's Cereal, and the One Minute Muffin, or OMM. These are absolutely fabulous! And anything you eat for any other meal you can eat for breakfast.

I also have a protein shake for breakfast, made with whey protein powder. Simple to make, and lots of protein.

Hope this helps.

Jen-In addition to Nita's fine suggestions: For people who used any kind of prepackaged food, most people report fewer issues with shakes than bars. Not that it's not necessarily your best choice, but one option.

I'm with Nita on the whey shake. I've been doing this for 8 years and have tried about every idea out there for breakfast. Egg McMuffin without the muffin, sausage and cream cheese, breakfast bars, etc., etc.
The whey shake is simple, delicious and filling. Experiment with how much fills you up - I find by doubling the suggested amount (2 scoops instead of one) and ice cold water works for me. I'm full until lunch.

Dan, I do the same thing. That boost of protein first thing in the morning keeps me going all day, and I'm not as likely to need a snack in the evening. Yesterday I put 2 tbs of coconut flour in it, for a fiber boost, and it was quite good.

Jen,
I do cheese sticks for breakfast.
I find them fast, portable and they are prepackaged!
Hope that helps!

I used to rely on cheese sticks but I cut them down to an occaisional snack because of the fat. I tried the OMM and I have to say OMG!! LOVE IT! I found DaVinci's syrup in vanilla and raspberry but I just love the "oat-y" flavor of the basic recipe. I've tried some cream cheese/syrup "icing" when I wanted something a little sweeter but I love them!! Both my boys love the smell of them too and although they like them, they are going to stick with cereal for breakfast... I also made my first protein shake today with Crystal LIght's orange drink, vanilla syrup, protein powder, and some 8th Continent vanilla Soy milk...mmmmmMMMMMmmmm...creamsicle!Thanks everyone for helping me find new/alternative "staples" for my new WOE!! I'm still losing a steady 3 pounds a week so we'll see if losing the Atkins bars helps! I'll keep everyone posted!!

I've been making quiches on the weekends, cutting, freezing, then just pulling one out each day and zapping in the mwv.
