Welcome to all of the "newbies"!

If you want peope to notice you have loss weight wear black. I wore a pair of black pants with a tapered black and yellow top to school the other day and about 10 people commented on how good I looked.

I think if you are wearing the same baggy clothes no one is going to notice any weight loss. That seemed to be true in my case. It also gives you an excuse to buy some new clothes :-).

Good Luck to all!

Welcome Ann,

You have to LOSE the grapes. They are very high on the Glycemic Index. They are spiking your blood sugar and causing your pancreas to produce insulin. Are you doing Atkins? If so, you HAVE to read the book, Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (DANDR) and you will probably have to start induction over again. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Nobody really noticed my loss until I reached the 20lb mark. I have only about 20 left to go to reach goal.

People (and you) will also notice if you wear clothing that FITS - one of my coworkers has lost 50 pounds, but she still wears the old baggy stuff, so you can't see the loss. Meanwhile, I've been attentive to keeping myself in clothing that fits - it makes a difference to me and others!

Ann: I'm concerned about the protein pills - how many grams of protein are you supposedly getting from them? You're getting plenty from your meats!

Also - cut the grapes, increase the veggies (should be 3 cups of legal veggies!), and drink PLENTY of water - 100 ounces per day should be your minimum.

Hope this helps!

I found that you have to lose a lot of weight before people notice. (I think at least 25 pounds) I am lucky that I work at a place where people DO notice and say something nice about it. I belong to a group that I avoided for several months. I went back to the group with a 50 pound weight loss and no-one said anything unless I prompted them "do you notice anything different about me?"

I am a teacher and I had the summer off.. so when I went back I had lost another 15 lbs. (had lost about 50 lbs during the year last yr.)Now I get people who don't even recognize me... I also get a lot of double takes... kinda fun to watch. = ) I recommend lots of exercise.. it has made all the difference in me!

Don't just go by the mirror. You'd be surprised just how much you see yourself as still "fat" even when you're not.

I got down to 152 pounds last December (12 pounds from goal after starting out at 240) and when I looked in the mirror, I still didn't think I looked that thin.

It wasn't until seeing myself in vacation photos that I realized just how much weight I'd lost.

Just keep plugging away!

Noise (Gotitbad), welcome! Doing some research first isn't a bad idea at all, because there are a lot of meritorious low carb eating plans available. I highly recommend Laura Richard's book, "The Secret to Low Carb Success - How to Get the Most Our of Your Low Carbohydrate Diet". It has a great summary of the major plans and a point-by-point comparison tables. The book also cover a lot of the practical day-to-day stuff that makes this way of eating work so well.

Annabelle - you should lose the grapes while doing induction. I would also suggest that you not take the protein supplements either, but get yourself a good high potency mult-vitamin instead. You also seem to be light on other veggies as well during induction you can have two cups of salad and a cup of other veggies like broccoli, green beans and asparagus. The chicken wing dings - do you make these yourself or are they frozen? Often the frozen kind are very high in carbs.

What's a typical menu for you? Let us know, we may be able to help.

I was near the 50-pound loss mark before anyone noticed that I had lost weight. By the same token, I can gain a lot of weight and no one notices. I carry weight well. When I first started this way of life I hadn't told a soul that I was "dieting" because I had tried so many diets in the past and had failed, and if I failed at this one, too, I didn't want anyone pointing a finger at me and saying: "I knew you wouldn't be able to stick with it."

When I started getting comments like: "Are you losing weight?" I knew it was working. That and the fact that I went to put my jeans on one day and When I started to walk across the floor, they fell down...literally.

I only have about 40 lbs to lose. I have lost 13 and people notice it on me now. I don't really see it on myself (but then I didn't "see" that I had gotten bigger either) Seeing pictures of myself is really the only way I can tell. My clothes are much looser - but I will wear them baggy for a while - I refuse to spend money on "in-between" clothes. I want a big shopping spree when I reach goal. I can hold out for that....

I have made it to the 30 lbs. mark and now people are starting to notice, especially when I wear clothes that actually fit! Most of my clothes are baggy and I am with you 4weeks, I want a big shopping spree when I reach goal, so I will just have to go baggy for a while.

I still don't see a major difference, but I can tell I now have only 1 1/2 chins instead of 2! LOL!

I have lost 28 lbs and 35 overall inches in 4 and 1/2 months and although I can not see it I am getting comments from a lot of people.....so what I do is take pictures and look at them side by side and then I can also see the changes!

I've lost 45 pounds and people started noticing at about 20 or so. But when I look in the mirror I still see me 45 pounds heavier. When I go shopping for clothes, I still pick clothes that are 2 sizes bigger than what I actually wear!

The mental image I have of myself I isn't that great. Lately I've been feeling down on myself because my clothes are too big and I look sloppy no matter what I put on (I should be happy, I know!) but it costs a small fortune to buy new clothes.

I had the same exact problem, until my mother in law finally convinced me to try resale shops - The better ones have nicer clothes, that are *still* much cheaper than even shopping at Wal-Mart. Now I have an entire closet full of "new" clothes, and I finally threw the last of my "old" clothes to other people that could use them. Or, if you have the time, you can sell the nicer ones on eBay, or make arrangements with a consignment store.

(ego boost) - I wore a tighter fitting sweater yesterday, and 3 people said that was the smallest, best fitting top they'd ever seen me in, and *made* me stand outside for front and side profile photos - digital camera meant I could see the shots immediately, and *I* was even surprised. My chest now sticks out farther than the rest of me.(/ego boost)

Your self image will change so dramatically when you're in clothes that fit, that you won't even mind if they're not brand new. You see a totally different "you" in the mirror.

Even the higher end Goodwill stores have alot of nice stuff, and it's all anywhere from $2.00 to $6.00 - you just have to carefully check it over before you buy it.

The thought of buying from resale shops used to creep me out, because you really never know where the items come from. But, everything I buy gets washed twice before I'll wear it - in my detergent, my water, my fabric softener, etc. The only things I won't buy from such stores are shoes, jammies, and undergarments.

The money you save in the mean time could be put toward a whole new wardrobe when you reach your goal weight. That kind of excitement just can't be measured.

Give it some thought...

I've lost 25lbs (of an original 80), and so far no one has commented, UNLESS I have asked them. Then it's 'Oh you look terrific', and 'yes I could tell you've lost weight'. Sigh...

Although I've lost quite a few inches from my hips and waist (what passes for one - it's not very well defined), the loss is most obvious from my face, neck and upper chest. I think I've lost quite a bit from my back, which of course I can't see, but a masseuse said this was so. My midriff is appalling, still a big over hang, and maybe that's why I still don't look like I've lost much. It shrinks in proportion to the rest of me, so it still looks too big. Grrr. I'm hoping that the theory of losing from the top down is true, because that would mean my lower half still has a loooong way to go.

Luckily I don't have to go to the resale shops, because my wardrobe is full of stuff I haven't worn as I outgrew it too fast..... It will be nice to wear these...
