Yesterday we went to visit my step son, DIL and 2 granddaughters. We went to lunch at a steak house. I had 3 hot wings, a filet mignon, mushrooms & onions and a salad. The youngest had to have a hot fudge brownie for dessert. This was not a kid's size, it was huge. She wanted me to share it with her. Of course, I did not want to hurt her feelings so I ate 3 bites of brownie with the fudge sauce (I did not eat any ice cream). I got ill before we even left the restaurant. Not to be gross, but I had a bad case of the runs. We had to drive 2 hours to get home and I was so sick. I kept falling asleep(I was not driving) and having to stop to potty. When we got home I just sat around. My head started hurting by this time. I went to bed at 8:15 and I was asleep by 8:30. I did not wake up again until 4:15. This is unusual for me to sleep sound. At first I thought I was coming down with a bug, but I feel fine today.

Has this happened to anyone else when you have eaten sugar? In May, I ate some chocolate candy and it made me nauseous and tired feeling, but nothing like yesterday.

Even if it was not the chocolate I am going to put the blame on it. That way I will not be tempted again.

that does seem quite severe - and hitting you awfully fast....

i've had the lethargic-ness, headaches and flu-like symptms,,, but not the runs from sugar.

if you feel fine today.. that very well could have been it.

glad to hear you are felling better.

This is exactly what happened to me. Chocolate is my downfall and after having some it also made me feel sick and I got a headache. Further proof that this WOE is better for you. So blame the chocolate!!!

Possibly it was a reaction to the rich meal and sugar; or possibly you had a case of mild food poisoning.

Glad to hear you are better now!

In my case it wouldn't have been the chocolate, per se, it would have just been the sugar in general.

Sugar consumption gives me a "high" for a little while and then I feel very, very lethargic and sluggish.

Chocolate does contain caffeine and therefore is a diruretic and may cause a laxitive effect, especially when you've gotten your system accustomed to doing without it.

    My two cents...

Sounds like a mild case of food poisoning, I had very similar symtoms from some bad mayo once. Sugar only gives me the hangover headache, and the slugishness, not the runs.
    Hope you feel better.

I suspect it was the chocolate. If you have been low carbing without cheats for a while, the body seems to react differently to carb rich foods. Or at least mine does.

I had a Burger King Whopper at a train station; there was nothing else suitable to eat and I needed to eat. It didn't hit immediately but that night my stomach was churning, and I hit the bathroom big time. Didn't gain any weight, but I may have lost!!

Then in Italy I 'had' to have an ice cream - Italian ice cream is so gorgeous. And I paid for it in the same way. Upset stomach, cramping, and an hour of loo running. I had another ice cream a day or so later and was OK.

I think our systems get super-sensitised on this woe, until we really fall off the wagon.

    Thanks for your replies.

I am going to blame it on the sugar and the chocolate. That way I will not be tempted by either. I do not want to feel like that again .

It is amazing how sugars & starches makes us feel so ill now. I use to live on sweets. No wonder I always felt bad!
