Well, today was my birthday and my first cheat since staring this woe back in June. Hubby took me out to a nice steak restaurant and I did great with the meal; but I did have a few bites of the Hershey brownie with vanilla ice cream. It didn't really taste all that great to me and made me feel like cr*p, so I won't be doing that again!!

I'm not beating myself up over it and I went right back on plan this evening. I am actually glad that it happened, now I know that I won't be tempted to cheat again!! Yuck!

Lesson learned, right?! I don't think an occasional planned indulgence is a BAD thing - but I've simply lost my taste for so much of the stuff I used to eat, that I'm amazed.

We took a little road trip last weekend; the Best Western where we stayed offered a complimentary Continental Breakfast. DH and I decided to go down and get some decaf coffee, figuring there'd be NOTHING for us Atkins eaters - and boy were we right - every imaginable kind of doughnut, croissant, and Danish pastry; grape and orange juices; individual cold cereal packs; packets of instant oatmeal; and a selection of bagels and breads which could be toasted. AAAArrrrrggghhh!

Now, a year ago, the Queen of Doughnuts (me) would have had at least THREE of those little sinkers - and I admit I DID look - but honestly, they just looked NASTY to me. In fact, I watched a (quite heavy) woman pick up 2 of the largest raised glazed (my former favorite) and I nearly was ill just watching HER eat them!

So, all that to say, it gets easier and easier as I go along, and probably will for YOU too, to avoid the things that make us not feel well because they JUST STOP LOOKING GOOD!

Good for you for getting right back on the program though.

Char

P.S. -- We each got some decaf coffee with the little Half & Half containers (thankfully they offered THOSE and not just that junk whitener stuff) and DH went upstairs to our room and got our stash of Macadamia nuts - hey, those and coffee make a pretty tasty breakfast!

Don't squat with yer spurs on!

Char,
I think this experience has done it for me....yuck! The thing is, I didn't really want the brownie; but hubby thinks that everyone should have a treat on their birthday, so I ate it. I won't be doing that again. My next birthday I will make a lc cheesecake and let that be my treat.

Hey Butterfly,

GOOD for you. You didn't let that little bump in the road throw you in the ditch. 3 weeks ago or so, I had wedding cake at my BIL's wedding. I danced my hiney off, so I think the damage was minimal. I did pretty well on the rest of the stuff they had. What a spread. They had hor d'oevres with a lot of stuff I COULD eat, veggies, ramake, meatballs, etc. Then the dinner was quite carby, but I had the meat and green beans. Then I had the dreaded cake (oh was it GOOD!!) They had an unbelievable dessert spread, but I only had the cake and then some allowed fruits. I danced so much my thighs hurt for 3 days afterward. What a workout!!! It was sooooo much fun. But I got right back on the horse the next day. And come to think of it, I didn't feel all that awful the next day, except for my aching thighs. I must have worked of all that sugar, hehe.

I think the lesson here, is that if we slip OCCASIONALY, it's not the end of the world. And we don't want to do it very often.

Pat yourself on the back!!!

I cheated yesterday. I have always been an emotional eater. Well yesterday I recieved some devastating news about a close friend. This caused me to become depressed and I started reaching for the cookies and chips. I started to realize what I was doing and realized this was not the way to get through this. I did eat a few cookies before I stopped. This was a hard lesson learned for me. I was proud that I stopped when I realized what I was doing. I still have some work to do but I am getting there.

Like they say better to stop after 6 oreos, that after 6 oreos and an apple pie.
In other words, get over it and move on. Don't look back.

Victors are really just temporary quitters who then regroup with a vengeance.

Tanya - seems to me you did a great job. You broke a pattern that has always haunted you! And because you did that, you will be even more emotionally sound and able to help your friend.
