I assume that they're not selling Metabostix by you either, then? These are available in the US over the counter, so you don't have to ask a pharmacist for them. Although, the box of ketostix is cheaper because you get more. What a ridiculous situation! Thank goodness for the internet! Mada 210/208/140

| OR, maybe with all the Atkins folks buying them, they ARE out of stock. Or have a very low supply. If I were running low, and there was a choice between selling some to a dieter for informational purposes, or a diabetic who's health may depend on it, I may choose the diabetic as well. As our numbers grow, it will take the marketplace sometime to adjust. Lets not blame every setback on detractors... | I have a feeling it's almost completely Atkins people using the sticks. There has been so much progress in the technology of automatic testing devices for diabetes that something as old and clumsy as Ketostix must have lost a great deal of their usefulness in diabetes treatment. |

I agree, Doctor. And the big drug stores know how to stock popular items. To show what we are up against, there was a headline in a magazine hot on the shelves today: "Atkins diet left me bedridden". I'm going to bed. I will snort some ground up ketostix, and if I can find any Rizlas, I will smoke some dried spinach leaves and listen to Jefferson Airplane. Groovy, man....

Maybe you could get some ketostix the way me and my friends used to get booze when we were kids. Just loiter around in front of the pharmacy and beg diabetics going in to buy some ketostix and bring them back out to you. Have a good sob story ready, like, "I need them for my diabetic brother who's being shipped to Iraq." Then go home and snort them.

Ketostix arrived today. Now I can skin up. Best news of all is that I'm still in ketosis! Clare

I used to work in boots too!! BOOTS IN LEICESTER SELLS THE ATKINS DIET BOOK!!! If they can let junkies in to drink their methadone in front of you and ooze pus around you they can bloody well let you buy pee stix! It's not as though you are going to pull your knickers down and wee all over their floor is it? I'm not bothering with the ketostix ( spend enough in boots anyway) just getting on the scales... This thread is hilarious, I love everyone's comments. At the weekend we went to a curry house in Bournemouth. I ordered a couple of Gin and Slimlines and the very fat Maitre d' came over to take our order ( I had blistered feet as we'd walked all over to find a curry house in Bournemouth) everyone ordered away and i resigned myself to no poppadoms, no mango chutney and no raita, knowing I would die of jealousy watching the others eating it, so thought I'd be ok on the starters. Well, I'm a vegie and all the vegie starters they had were full of flour etc, so I asked her if I could get a paneer shashlik ( not on the menu) spicy chhese, she said 'no we won't do specials its too busy' and went on about what a broad menu they had. Now my BF told her what I was doing ( didnt want him to as i knew could be bad response) and she went 'oh very unhealthy' ( bear in mind she ought to have been on a diet herself) and I was resigned to having a main dish and a side dish, no rice, no starter, no nothing!! Now, I don't mind doing that but I couldn't help thinking of things I should have answered back with such as 'says you' or 'so the press would have you believe' or 'you really should try it some time' hehehehe When we sat down at the table I trapped my hand under the seat pad pulling it in, so all in one night I was blistered, insulted and injured! As you can imagine I then went out and got very drunk on wine and a half empty stomach, the *****!!Next morning in the hotel at breakfast I requested an omelette (not on the menu but everyting else was meat or with carbs) and they wouldn't make me one! Every other type of egg there but no bloody omelette! Had to have poached eggs on toast and give my toast away, and then literally ate just 2 eggs. Was very disappointed. How come some places are so backwards? Customer service? Narrow minded? Nothing like being made to feel that you are the guest! The other thing I've noticed is that I've got a bit of a wheat intolerance , so i suppose I should have told them it was that...

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm glad to hear someone else is having trouble with doing Atkins over here. I did Atkins when I lived in Illinois and couldn't ask for more support, and was able to lose because of it I think. I'm trying to Atkins over here and find it soooo frustrating. I finally lied (hated doing that) and said I was diabetic to get some sticks. I also find that everything, including the meat, is pumped full of sugars over here. I can't even buy a turkey joint without it having 3 carbs of sugar per serving. Slowly, I am getting around it but it is so much harder here in Scotland. Instead of telling people I'm on Atkins and getting support, I get strange looks and told that it will harm me. Not a very low carb friendly environment on this side of the pond. Sorry about the rant. Hopefully things will get better. Emmie
