I've been on Atkins for a month now, and I've lost 2 inches off of everything, and I've also lost 10 pounds. I am so frustrated though because it seems the scale is just not moving anymore. I've cut back the carbs again to 20 per day, and I walk at least 2 miles 5 times a week along with situps/pushups and lifting weights. WHY AM I STALLING?!?!?!

Thanks!!
Tracy

You are probably NOT stalling, Tracy.

Weight loss slows down after the first two weeks to a NORMAL 1/2 to 2 pounds per week.

You are doing nothing wrong. It's only been a month since you started.

RELAX.

Let the WOE work. Raise your carbs with veggies. Drink your water.

RELAX.

Cheers,
Emelia

Ten pounds in a month???

WOW!

You're doing great! Give your body time to adjust to this new eating regimen and its weight loss.

Keep on keepin' on....you'll see results. This is a way of life...not a race.

Not to be indelicate, but you're stalling because you didn't read the book closely!

Go back and read it again, especially the chapters on OWL and exercise. With that much activity and that low carb level, you're starving yourself.

If you haven't actually read the book, then shame on you!

Fact of the matter is, it happens to about everyone, especially if they don't raise their carbs some as they raise their physical activity.

Did you measure? I found after starting to exercise daily that I even gained twice but lost 14 inches overall in the 6 weeks I was exercising!

if you have only been on Atkins a month and you have lost 10 pounds.... how long has the scale not been moving?!?!
Also... how often are you weighing....
I am only repeating advice I have read here... but it's advice that when I took it TOTALLY helped me..... Don't weigh more than once a week!!! And don't even start to worry until it's been 3-4 weeks that it hasn't moved AND no inches are gone....

How much weight do you have to lose? I have found that the less that you have to lose the slower it will go. But I think that 10 pounds is a month is great!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't help but be a bit put off by Mikeyrat's opinion. I'm sorry, but i'm here for support not to be scolded. Yes, I did read the book, and i've raised my carbs. I'll keep on going and see what happens. I've got 80 pounds to lose, and I realize its a slow process, but I can't help being a bit frustrated. Thanks for all the other support though, I appreciate it!!

Thanks!

Sorry, Tracy, there are different types of support, and I think most folks know me by now as being as supportive and as helpful as everyone. I understand you're seeking emotional support as well as "technical" support. This board is nothing if not long on emotional support! The technical stuff's in the book(s), and I just want to be sure people are going to the source for that.

It is SO imperative that we understand what is happening to our bodies when we change our WOE, and that we need to make sure we're armed with as much knowledge as possible. DANDR is a BIG book and covers A LOT of ground, and in an evening of reading it, you will learn and forget 5 times what you absorb.

We seem to see so many people here who start the WOE based on reading a few web pages, or on advice from a friend, and they don't really know what they're into. The answers you seek (but understandably not the emotional support) are in the book.

BTW, I'm originally from Topeka... where is Victoria? Hate to be ignorant of a state I lived in for 41 years, but I'm drawing a blank!

Thanks Mikey! I'm sorry, guess I'm a little bit defensive too. I really don't understand what's going on with my body, I guess I think with the major turnaround in my eating habits and all the stupid exercise i've been doing the pounds should just melt off. Apparently its tons easier and way more fun to put it on than take it off huh. Do you have any suggestions on what I should be eating? I should add that I do a major no-no, but I don't eat breakfast and only because I never have before and I'm just never ever hungry in the mornings. Feel free to rant about that LOL Anyway, I appreciate every aspect of the support here, i would just like to throw my scale right out the window when it moves in the wrong direction or not at all!! LOL

Oh btw Mikey...Topeka is about 3 hours East of me. I'm in Western KS.

Thanks again all!!

Tracy, I'm not going to scold you about not eating breakfast.......but........you should.
Yeah, there will be people here who will say they never eat breakfast and have lost a lot of weight. We are all different. Did you know that your metabolism does not start working until you put food in your mouth. Mine is slow enough, I don't need it stalling until I feed it at noon! I also learned that Sumo wrestlers are starved all day and then fed a gigantic meal in the evening before bed. What does that tell you?......
For me , this way of eating/ way of living was about changing bad habits as much as what I am putting in my mouth.

Hi Tracy,
You may as well start eating breakfast, Mona stayed on me until I did, and it has helped...just kidding Mona, but she was right about it, I too never ate a morning meal and its hard to do it, even now!

Hi Tracy -

I've been reading a book by Tom Venuto and he says losing weight is simple, but it's not EASY. You have to be religious about your eating and exercising, and drinking water. 1 lb. a week is a great target, even 1/2 lb. a week. Unless you're very overweight, you just can't lose more than 2 lbs. a week of fat. I've lost 1 or 2 in the last 3 weeks, and that's ok with me.

Keep it up

John

Tracy, I think you've done very well, so far. You just need to relax and let the diet do its work, whether it does it slowly or quickly. The weight doesn't come off in a straight flat bee-line descent. It tends to come off quickly at first, then slow down, then speed up, then slow down, and even go up a couple of times, and that's just if you're doing things right.
