I don't know about anyone else, but I have found that going on birthcontrol, makes me gain weight (which is scaring me right now, because I just went back on it) Usually, when I go off bc, I drop a couple of pounds.
I don't know how much water you drink but, everytime I eat too many carbs, or eat something I shouldn't or don't exercise a day that I should I try to fix the problem with drinking more water. It has worked for me so far, and I will find out about bc and gaining weight this time on the 22nd.

Sorry, I couldn't be of more help. I am sure someone else is going to say that "everyone is different and some things stall people while the same things might not stall everyone" or something to that nature.

Good luck Kelly!

Quoting straight from DANDR, (Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution), page 64:

"The Pill for birth control and the estrogen used as menopausal hormone replacement therapy...increase the severity of hyperinsulinism and therfore aggravate hypoglycemia, diabetes, and overweight. If you are on these medications, you would not be expected to do well with this or any other diet. In other words, you may be forced to choose between the female hormone and being slim and having normal blood sugar levels."

And from page 151...

"...[the Pill] not only holds up weight loss, but stimulates the production of insulin. Estrogen, the female hormone, does this (the Pill)...taken as estrogen...you may want to consider other methods of birth control..."

Having had five pregnancies myself, and having had taken the Pill for a number of years between those pregnancies, I know for a fact that it takes quite some time for the effects of taking the Pill to leave your bloodstream. It took sometimes two months after stopping the Pill for me to get pregnant.

Therefore, in my humble opinion, it may take awhile for your body to "detox" from the Pill and, thus, have your blood sugar levels back to "normal"...

My two cents...

Hi Kelly,
I gained alot of weight when I went on birth control a few years ago (ortho-tri-cyclen), and I think it was because it made me crave so many foods from the timing of the hormones. I also started eating alot more in response to the cravings. About a year ago, I switched to Yasmin, which is supposed to be a steady dose of the hormones. Well so far, my weight loss has not been affected at all by the birth control. I have been doing Atkins since 8/26 and have lost 14 pounds, so I don't think that my pill is affecting my metabolic resistance at all. I think how the pill affects you depends on the type you are taking. I agree with the others tho, that the pill probably isn't causing the stall. Those are just my random thoughts.
Good luck!

I am just wondering if there are other pills out there that will keep your skin clear. I am on ortho tri cyclen and have been since I was a teen for mild acne. I am almost scared to switch because it may come back (although I am 23 and quite past that stage ) However, I want to change because I find it is hard to lose and I eat more. Any suggestions?

When I went on the Pill I didn't gain weight. But I do figure that may be why I'm such a slow loser. But I am losing so I'm just accepting that I live this WOL and take the pill and gradually I'm getting thinner. After 8 kids, the birth control is far too critical at this point. And it's also helping with the whole menopause thing at the same time. A good exchange for me.
