Hi Everyone, Well I guess I don't have anything earth shattering to report today. DH started His diet full steam yesterday. So far he has resisted all the office goodies. I have been getting low carb flack even though I haven't discussed this with anyone. The general public has this misconception that all we eat is bacon, eggs, and steak. I know some people do, but I eat a variety of things myself. I guess the key is not to argue with folks about it. My poor DH made the mistake the other night of mentioning it to some friends of ours, everyone had strong negative ideas. So now he agrees with me about not opening up that topic of conversation. Nobody really understands the concept anyway. I don't understand why everyone has to be so concerned about what you eat, we're not asking anyone else to join us. Well I have to go to work, hope everyone has a great day. Judy![]() ![]()

| Judy, I hear ya! I feel your pain, man. It's funny sometimes: people have little or no concern if you're munching up sugar and garbage from now to kingdom come, but if you start eating LC-which is lots of veggies and protien, and they act like you're on the fast-track to disaster. The folks that only eat the bacon, eggs and steak are the ones that haven't bothered doing their homework to find out what LC is all about. You and DH are not in the category, thank goodness. I will say that in my experience, the biggest naysayers tend to come around as you start having some visible success. Hard to argue that your "diet" is detrimental when the pounds start dropping and you look and feel great. You all hang in there and keep doing what's best for you; the rest falls in to place.Have a great day yourself! |

| I had a friend tell me that low carb was boring - she couldn't stand those bars & shakes! As if low carb was just bars & shakes! We still have people ask if we're still "on that diet", as if we'd ever start eating sugar & starch again. And if we have a potluck dinner, if we don't take something for us to eat, we can pretty much guarantee that there won't be much to choose from. The last time we did this, we were told at the last minute that the supper had been changed to lunch, I said I didn't have time to make anything, I was told there would be plenty - yes, all sandwiches and chips, not even a plate of lunch meat & cheese separate, no vegetables, nothing to munch on. We had a diet soda, visited for about an hour, and then went home and had a real lunch! I thought all my friends knew that we absolutely do not eat sugar and starch - I guess they just forgot. (I still love them all, anyway!) Often you're better off keeping your way of eating to yourself, then, as Dixie said, eventually people will see the results of your new lifestyle, your weight loss AND your better health, and it might make them think to do some research into it for themselves. |

| I know what you are telling me is right, it's just interesting that so many people are broaching the subject, like they know what I'm doing and they do not approve. Mostly I brush it off and refuse to discuss the subject with them. One pushy individual got so bad I sent her some materials via e mail. All the reasons why it is a good idea. I haven't heard from her in awhile. I'm not sure how she received it. Hope everyone has go pleasant evening. Judy

| It is shocking the number of people who did not want to see me succeed on this WOE. Once I figured out that it wasn't MY health they were concerned about I go talking about this WOE. Since I haven't lost much weight in a long time, the big thing I get is, you aren't doing that diet anymore, we can tell you haven't lost weight. It is interesting as Dixie said that no one stopped me or was concerned for my health when I was on blood pressure meds, or was eating all sugar and starch. My favorite thing is when folks tell me this is an unbalanced diet. My response is, oh, did you think the way I was eating before was balanced? Ok, I had a little rant. This one is one we can all relate to! LOL

| I agree with you, I think misery loves company. I think some people don't want you to succeed out of spite. My problem is I hate confrontations, I'm a peacemaker by personality type. And most people have never read a book on the subject so they don't have a clue. I've always been a person who follows another path anyway so it just makes me dig in and make this my eating choice.

| I, too am non confrontational. AND I agree, no one was harping on me when I was driving thru 5 days a week! What's up with that???? I've eaten more veggies on LC than any other time in my life! Well...except maybe on the cabbage soup diet! ![]()

| When my brother had a massive head injury, he was told that he had to eat sugar for his brain to heal. So he did, gained a huge amount of weight, which didn't help his other injuries. I was totally floored that any medical person would tell someone that they had to eat sugar! Don't they know that protein provides enough glucose for optimal brain functioning? And that the brain loves ketones?!!! At least, that's what Dr. Larry McCleary says in his book, The Brain Trust Program. So, I'll continue with my nice protein & fat & veggies, and continue to ignore the sugar that's all around me. |

| i also discovered that sometimes people seemed threatened by the losses when they start coming. it's almost like if you lose some weight, then they can't continue to be complacent and still feel okay about it or something. and that bad advice just floors me - telling a diabetic and TBI patient they need sugar to be healthy?! sugar helps no one! aggghhhh! ![]() |

| I've had so many negative things said to me about low carbing. I told one friend I was doing low carb, and he said "oh, I hope you're doing a good one, not something unhealthy like atkins." I asked him what he thought I was eating, and he was floored when he heard the amount of veggies, etc. that I eat. All I know is that I tried for a year to lose weight the "recommended" low fat/low cal way, and I ended up gaining weight. Now I weigh less, I feel great, and I don't understand how anyone can criticize that. I think a lot of people have a lot of emotional investment in the idea that low fat/cal is "the" healthy way. I read a study a few months ago that in the past 15 years, children's fat consumption has decreased, but their obesity has increased hugely. So I don't see what's healthy about low fat! |

| My problem is that I was always hungry. I was continually thinking of my next meal. LC has got to be better then that.
