Hi--I understand subtracting fiber from carbs. However, I'm not sure how to account for "sugar alcohols" and things like glycerine. I have never seen an ingredient listed as a "sugar alcohol." Is this something you have to recognize based on the ingredient, itself? (I.e., you just have to know that ingredient X happens to be a sugar alcohol?) Also, how to account for glycerine? Is this one of those "pseudo-sugars" that is subtracted from net carbs? In case you're wondering, I'm trying to "interpret" the labeling on LeCarb lemon ice cream. Aderyn

In the case of LeCarb, it just tells you on the front of the package how many carbs are from glycerine, and how many net carbs should be counted. On other packaging that doesn't specify, I just count the total carbs minus fiber. There's also a chance you may be affected by glycerine, just as you would be by sugar. Until you find out for sure, I would suggest that you count all carbs, and only subtract fiber. Better than running into a disaster. (296/226.5/135) 04/01/03 The Downward Spiral Begins

I remember reading that about glycerine, shrinky. Thanks for reminding me! I have been following the "carbs minus fiber" formula, and I'll follow your advice and stick to it. It's easy and sounds like I might be safer, too. Thanks for the help! Aderyn
