Hi Julie,

how about some jerky and some low carb bars - there is so many different ones you can get these days. Walmart is a good place to go. If there isn't anything better, a low carb bar is a good thing. Also you can call the airline and make a request for a special meal. Usually if you ask for a kosher meal, you get a pretty good choice for low-carbers. Also celery sticks & peanut butter or almond butter travel well. I would also take extra water for the flight - they never provide enough beverage. Hope this helps.

Have a fun trip!

Katrin

thanks for the input, katrin. low-carb bars used to be a great snack, but after all the stuff i've read here about how much they can stall a person, i stopped eating them... but i might try the peanut butter idea. even the sugar-free stuff has enough carbs in it that i really have to be careful...
onward!

I would take a small cooler, the zip kind and fill it with cold chicken and salad, [make it and put in single serving plastic bowls] and any meat thats edible cold!

Julie,

There are different opinions about the low carb bars. They do tend to cause some people to stall. I have used the bars to get me through some very tricky situations. I agree if Katrin, if you cannot get anything better they are better than a high carb snack.

Junie's idea is great too. You can also take the individual snack size cheeses.

Hopefully, at the wedding reception there will be low carb foods for you to enjoy.

Have a great time .

If you call the airline and ask them for a low-carb atkins meal, they might come through for you.

Nuts and string cheese will get you through a multitude of situations. At the wedding, eat the deli meat and cheese platters and whatever green salads they have.

I love Junie's idea! You could freeze the containers of meat so they'll help keep other items cool. They should be thawed by the time you want to eat. (or one frozen, one not frozen for eating earlier)

Look at the label on a container of nuts and measure out a serving. Keep this amount in mind when snacking on them so you don't overdo it.

Good luck with the stay at the hotel. I lucked out at a very nice hotel in Denver when my husband was there on business. Great food and it was very easy to stay low carb. Two meals a day were very filling and plenty for me, so even though they cost more per meal I wasn't spending as much as I would have on three junk meals with snacks. And I was feeling *great*... physically and also mentally from feeling pampered.

If your hotel doesn't have very good food, or if the wedding events don't have much to offer for low carb, please remember to take care of yourself and stick to healthy foods, even if you need to stop by a restaurant or store to do so. Stick to your water and a handful of nuts and cheese if needed to get you by for a while.

Of course, whether or not to use the trip as an excuse to have an occasional high carb item (such as wedding cake) is a personal decision and is entirely up to you. Know ahead of time what sacrifices to your diet you're willing to make (if any) and be prepared to stick by your decision.... if you say no to wedding cake, don't feel deprived, feel GOOD!! If you say yes to it, don't feel guilty but also don't let it lead to other cheats.

Be sure to bring along good walking shoes. If your hotel doesn't have an excercise room (or if it's not to your liking... I hate tiny ones full of mirrors and people with excellent bods ), walking the halls and stairs can be great excercise.

ps - regarding feeling pampered....

This can make a big difference to the amount of fun you have and how well you stay to your diet. Besides getting some exercise, bring along everything to give yourself a "day at the spa" feeling even if you're staying in a very simple hotel room (my budget is usually bargain basement). Lotions, manicure/pedicure items, maybe a hot oil treatment for your hair, etc.

Enjoy and have a great time at the wedding!

I went on a trip for 7 days and lost 5 lbs while I was gone and ate out everyday!!! What I did was have a big ole omlette every morning and a big steak or prime rib or chicken and salad every night. I had no problems being hungry or finding appropriate food.
