I'm so well-trained by 2 years of Weight Watchers that my recommendation would be to count only HALF of your KoolAid towards your water quota for the day. That's the way they did it, and I still do it that way today.

As for the sweeteners, I believe they are all pretty close as far as carbs go - some people do not tolerate Equal or saccharine well, so find Splenda to be a good alternative, and vice versa.

I can't take Equal, but I use plenty of Splenda and I do use saccharin (Sweet & Low) in my iced tea.

If it was me I would not count it as my water.

Char, I did not allow myself to count anything other than water on WW either. I get a little bit obsessive at times.

I like Splenda because you can cook and bake with it. I have been using it for quite some time. I use to use Equal. Sweet & Low is too sweet tasting for me now.

Enjoy your Kool-Aid

I tried the "No Sugar" (sweetned with Splenda) KoolAid and found that I had to increase the water to mix ratio. It was just too darned sweet. After years of diet soda it just didn't hit the palet right.

Cherry flavor really brought back some fond memories of my youth in Illinois.

Information gladly given, but safety requires no unnecessary conversation.

I found that I have to avoid Equal completely. It triggers strong sugar cravings for me.

Splenda doesn't.

Equal (aspartame) can actually keep you from losing weight. Also it is rather bad for you. It can cause all kinds of health problems. Splenda is fine since it is made from sugar and won't poison your body. It also doesn't have this nasty aftertaste.

that aftertaste is kind of up to the tongue experiencing it =P varies by product as well, not just sweetener. splenda has a DEFINITE aftertaste to me. i cant eat anything with more than a packet or so in it, or else i feel all funky for hours afterwards. most aspartame products have that taste to me too, although diet pepsi is barely noticable compared to diet cokes aftertaste. aspartame jello tho is perfectly fine tasting =)

I'm sure it must be an individual preference. I prefer the taste of aspartame to splenda by far. It tastes much better in whipped cream, especially.

Slate magazine has an article (I can't find it right now), that compares the different sweeteners. They found that for cooking purposes (surprise!), good old saccharine (sweet'n'low) actually tasted better than foods cooked with splenda. For cold drinks, Splenda came in first, Equal came in second.

I will also agree that splenda definitely leaves that after taste in my mouth. I like the taste of equal and sweet & low and I can't distinguish the taste between the two. I've only had the equal once since I started this woe. Don't know if that will stall my weight loss or not.

I would have to say NO, dont count it as your water. Water should be water. IMHO

I too used to make this - using Splenda, for my kids too. (then i discovered Keto-cooler)

i think the sweetener you use is all in preference. As Ilse stated, she can't use one due to triggers, and some just don't prefer the taste of one or the other. It's all in what your body can handle and what you prefer.

I too found i had to dilute it more, or use less sweetener to get it to my liking.

I just picked up some Splenda last night and will try it. I am also not counting Kool-aid as my water count. I'm counting Kool-aid under beverage. I found myself drinking 1/2 gallon at a time and it gave me a headach. Thanks for all your help!
