Today I was so hungry and so discouraged (1LB gone in 3 weeks and I've been very careful)I actually broke down and ate a corn dog of all things...It was so gross and I loved it.
Anyway, does anyone know what the carb count is for 1 corn dog (with some of the outside stuff stripped off - as if that helps)?
Believe it or not I'm dreaming about a bag of microwave popcorn as we speak, so I'm hoping it's not too bad and I can encourage myself to drink water, stay with the plan etc, etc.
if any body is listening I NEED HELP!!

A corn dog is anywhere from 50-60 carbs, depending on how thick the coating is, and how large it is.

Most of the carbs were in the coating. If you got most of it off, you can probably weasel around and call it a 2 carb meal.

You should pat yourself on the back!! There are so many people that would have done the dumb thing, said, "What the hell!"and eaten it with the coating on it. And then headed for the ice cream. What you did was both flexible and disciplined. The real world is full of situations like that.

Wendi I know the feeling. I haven't seen the scale move in over a week and I was so tempted to eat a whole loaf of bread, but I'm doing my best to stick to it. Keep with it, drink plenty of water and exercise, and I'm betting the scale will start moving again! I dream of bread if that lets you know we all have those darn cravings! Keep it up!

Someone once said that stopping a binge after 5 oreos , is better than stopping after 5 oreos AND an apple pie. In other words , whats done is done, Move on. Funny how you said you ate the corn dog, and then dreamed of popcorn. That is how I used to feel when I would go off plan. "What the heck" kind of attitude.
The best thing you did, was to come to the board for support.
Hope today is a better day for you Wendi.

Thanks to all,
unfortunately all this support came after I closed down my computer and well...today is a new day.
I love the 5 oreo analogy, and will keep it in mind the next time I need a reality check and the rest of the world is busy living their lives and unable to be my immediate support system.
I'm sure there is a lesson here to be learned, however, I'm too busy choking down gallons of water and eating scrambled eggs without the usual luxury of whipping cream to get myself back on track, to have noticed it. Maybe later after my tuna salad.
Thanks to all, this really is a great place to find wisdom and advice.

Oh my goodness!!!! Today just must be one of those type of days. Im three weeks in induction and I was doing great! I lost 8.5 pounds the first week, but only 1 pound in the second, and then nothing this week. Even after being in ketosis. The point is I was lying around and out of nowhere this overwhelming urge to eat every carb on the planet swept over me....and i actually caved...which never happens!!!!!! I ate two huge bowls of applejacks, 5 swedish fish and three stale cookies!!!! That was yesterday. Once I got myself undercontrol, I went to the gym right after to burn off the sugar so I could start over. Everything was fine today until this afternoon, and it then happenned again!!! Im so scared that I may get stuck in this self destruction...why does this happen! I was doing so good!! I was like some wild out of control animal!! Thank goodness I was in the house alone because they may have tranquilized me and set me free into the wild. Is anyone else in my boat? If so how did you get back to shore after a terrible binge like that?

Almost sounds like you are getting ready for your TOM, and if that is the case, you do have those cravings while on lo carbs, just like you have then when you weren't doing low carbs. 1st make some sugar free jello, get some whipping cream and beat it up with a little splenda and eat with sf jello. If you can, get those carbs out of your house.... throw them away, put them where you can't reach them... If you have children and have to have them in the house, why not see if you can get them some non-sugar cereals, or somethng else for them to eat instead of the apple jacks....
I too loved the oreo analogy. When we were on vacation, my DH wanted something sweet (he rarely has a sweet tooth, unlike me I can eat a whole bag of cookies before I realize it), So he got a bag of double stuff oreos. Since we were visiting friends, and I was on week 3, I made sure the cookies were kept hidden, and in the 4 days were were there I only had one (which was 10 carbs)(two cookies are 20 carbs).
And Patted myself on the back for only having one..... and ate it very slow, making it last and last and last....didn't just pop the whole thing in my mouth and gobble down.
so, hope these ideas help.

I have terrible cravings during the first couple of days of my TOM. What I try to do is just to eat more fatty legal foods, for instance yesterday I ate almost 1/2 pound of bacon at one time. Yep, I'm up a pound today, but I'm sure its water retention and from the TOM and salt and it will go away this next week. I also pigged out (lol) on pork rinds and tried to up my veggies. By the way, the bacon etc. really helped. Those first couple of days are rough and I'm starving, but it slacks up. If you peeled off most of the breading you did okay. Just don't let yourself get so hungry you will eat any thing whether its legal or not.

Thanks so much for your advice. Actually everything seems to be spinning out of control but I plan on getting up and starting all over tomorrow. I guess the whole point is not to give up because every one goes through these setbacks. Unfortunately I have to have an occasional snack around for my daughter. I was so good at having things around and not being tempted to eat it. Like I said I was doing so well, ice cream could be sitting next to me and I wouldnt be tempted to even taste it. It just boggles my mind how all of a sudden all of that will power just went out of the window and food wasnt even next to me. I think I may have gotten discouraged after my weight loss slowed...that has to be it. Anyway thanks, its good to know Im not the only one this happens to. What is a TOM? I have read the book tons of times but for the life of me I cant figure that out

cravings are not neccessarily from TOM. i get no cravings with atkins, not even with TOM anymore. i used to eat everything in site for two days prior, but on atkins its like a sneak attack; my early warning system is gone!

a lot of carb cravings come from eating sweet things. watch for triggers, sometimes just the sweetness from a diet soda or sf jello can trigger cravings. and of course, once you indulge in carbs, that fuels more cravings, which fuel more cravings, etc etc etc. you get the picture =)

sometimes you just want something sweet, even if its not a craving. its ok to eat a treat if thats the case, a little sf jello or a cream cheese desert. just keep em low carb =)

some people find success battling cravings by eating a little of something, like jello. if they dont go away, try something else. if still not gone, switch to another thing, always keeping the portions very small, dont overindulge. cheese is also popular to fend off cravings, especially sharp tasting varieties.
