I just finished reading a book called "The Secret to Low Carb Success" by Laura Richards, B.S.N. M.H.A. She said that women should be eating about 50 grams of protein per day. Ive been tracking my food for a month now on FITDAY.COM and it shows that i eat only around 34-36 grams per day. Does anyone have any thoughhts on this?? Thanks! By the way Im new to this board but not to lowcarbing. Im Michelle from las vegas Nice to have found this site

WOW! only 50 grams a day. I'm way over that on a daily basis. Is there a such thing as eating too much protein? ![]() Shay 205/198.5/150 Atkins since 8/29/03 ~Too blessed to be stressed~

Protein Power by the Dr's Mary Dan and Michael Eades, suggest limited protein in conjunction with low(er) carbs. They have a formula with charts etc, in their book and it is based on your current body fat % and lean body mass. I'm not sure, but I think you may be able to do the calculations on their website at: www.eatprotein.com HTH Shelley sg *********** "if it ain't broke don't fix it" ***********

Around 50 is the "conventional wisdom" and we all know what that means. In my plan, protein is also based on LBM, but the minimum is 77 grams. BC 172/108/108 Zone since 4/98

| Hey all, an easy way to figure out a minimum protein range would be to take your ideal weight in pounds, divide by 2.2 to get it to kg, and multiply by .8 and 1.0. This would give you a range to go by. my ideal weight is 120 lb/55 kg so my range would be roughly 45 -55 gms to meet my body needs. However, with a low carb eating plan, you typically eat more protein than your body requires. I would not suggest going more than about 50% above your range. Just my thoughts. | It is so dependent on factors such as size/muscle mass, age, exercise! At 5'10 and muscular I can't imagine eating less than 75-100 grams of protein a day-- and I think that is a pretty common range for other LCing women. I suspect that over 100 would be excessive for most women. Men, fortunately for them, can get by with somewhat more, depending on their lean body mass... |
