| What do you know about Agave Nectar? Is it a good alternative, or should I stick with Sweet N Low?

| Thanks Goddess! It's relatively new to me too! They started carrying it at Trader Joe's so I was a little curious. Then today a co-worker brought in brownies that were made with black beans and agave nectar as sweetner - strange sounding, I know, but they were actually really good. No flour at all and kinda gooey... anyway, I started to wonder more about the agave after trying the brownies... one thing lead to another. So, is it something you would try? I tend to stick to what I know because I am afraid of getting myself all out of whack! Thanks so much for your help.... ![]()

| Nevermind - I read Henry's posts and have decided to stay away! Not worth the extra carbs or the Fructose! Am I understanding this correctly?

| what i'm gathering is that it's different for different people, but doesn't sound like it would be allowed if you're following atkins. foods lower in the glycemic index tend to impact blood sugar levels less than other foods, so it may be something that you could work in later on, or not. the "your milage may very stuff" means that it may work ok for you, or not. maggie said it didn't work well for her, but she also mentions the glycemic index tends not to match up with what her blood sugars actually do. based on these reports, i personally would categorize it in the "mayyyybe, but be careful category." clear as mud? ![]() |

| I've incorporated it into some of my chinese food for sauces BUT, it's a very small amount and goes over 3 people eating the dish. The GI is lower so it's better than sugar (and has alot more flavor) but it's probably best to stick to a regular sweetener for now.
