| Well, it was my DH's birthday and I went on a binge with him (kinda planned on it). He's been craving spaghetti; so I obliged him. He wanted cake and ice cream; I obliged him there, too. We carb snacked all day yesterday and now I feel like CRAP! I have been so good up until this point, and while I regret it, I am not going to let it beat me down. I am bloated this morning, I am tired, have a headache, and some serious gut rot going on here. So, what to do? Induction for a few days? Lots of water? Was it worth it? In the moment, yes. Now? Nope! Kellie, F38 Started Atkins 8/1/03 (off and on for the last few years but sticking to it this time!) 206/193/160 -- 10.75 inches GONE! (as of 9/15) Down 3 pounds this week! |

| I wouldn't redo induction - there's probably no point to it. Just up your water, and veggie intake accordingly, and pick up where you left off. (296/226.5/135) 04/01/03 The Downward Spiral Begins |

| I know there are alot of purists who will cringe at the thought...but I allow myself a 'blowout' once a month....yes, i know it is something i should be avoiding...habits...yadda, yadda, yadda....but the way i look at it is.....once a month...there are 12 months in a year....i figure 12 days of eating carbs out of 365 and a quarter days is pretty darn good....yes it is hard to go right back to low carbing the next day...but i do it...if i have any cravings...i note that....and that is what i indulge in on the next carbfest.....by allowing myself to do this....i also note to myself the ill effects that the carbs have on me such as the rapid heartbeat from the insulin ....the tiredness...bloating....these things also help me avoid carbs the rest of the time....does this make sense???? anyway...last night i had a sugarpalooza....the scale did not move in either direction....i had a high protein breakfast and will be chug-a-lugging my h2o.....when cravings during the month come my way....i just remember that i have one day coming soon...and just move on with a low carb snack...........................p.s. this isn't an all day thing...i usually do low carb all day and then have whatever i want for about an hour....since this immediately follows a low carb supper....i cannot eat too too much...because my stomach is somewhat full already If I set a goal...then when I finally reach that goal..I am afraid that I will use it as a license to eat..therefore..I have no goal...only to stick to this wol FOREVER!!! |

| LLLSTRIC, that's pretty much what my DH does and he doesn't move one way or the other with his weight. Me? Well, I piled on 5 pounds from my little (huge) binge yesterday. I know it's not a true 5 pounds, but nonetheless, I feel crappy. It's funny, what I consider a major binge was just a normal day of eating in my previous carb way of life. I know it's just a journey that will carry me thought life and I don't intend to beat myself up any further for taking a side street! | Hi Kellie I did the same this weekend. My husband wanted a gooey chocolate cake and I just knew that thing was going to be a thorn in my side. I was right, i indulged 2 pieces...1 on Sat and 1 on Sunday. Plus I made a huge pot of Vegetable soup and I have no idea the carb count. I put corn and potatoes in mine, so I'm not sure. I just ate it because darn it...it was sooo good. Today I started again...had my egg for breakfast and I'll have my salad for lunch with plenty of H2O and exercise this week. I was wondering though...you've been on Atkins since 8/03 and have lost that much weight?? What are you doing?? Its such SUPER success that I'm inspired! Take Care! Tracy |

| Those glucose molecules like to grab onto about 4 water molecules each! Part of the initial Atkins weight loss is those water molecules whooshing out. I'd say drink water like crazy (at least 128 oz a day) for the next week, and don't worry about it. You'll be fine. You should probably drink that much every day, anyway. Keep it up! | I am so glad I am not the only person that had an issue yesterday. Long Johns fish and chicken and 3 hushpuppies and krispies. Oh yeah and a big lemonberry slush from sonics. Yum, yum. I wish I would have felt like vomiting, but I didn't. My heart raced though. anyway, I will have a big blow out 1x a month. Next month: Taco Bell!!!! V ![]() I can do this!! 403/312/220 5'10 temp goal: 299.9 |

| Ack! Run from Taco Bell as fast as you can! I put on 6lbs in 1 night (course I had 2 milano cookies, and 2 sm. slices of pizza with it), but all I ate from there was a nacho supreme, and 1/3 of a grilled stuffed burrito. (296/226.5/135) 04/01/03 The Downward Spiral Begins |

| I don't agree, but then it depends on how often one succumbs. Eating low carb can become the natural thing for us, but out in 'the world' there are carbs everywhere. Sometimes we are going to be in situations where it's hard to resist. I was at a 50th birthday dinner last week. I knew before we went that I would eat everything offered me because it was probably the only time I will ever eat at that restaurant. It's famous in Britain and has a world class chef. I wasn't paying, and the food was out of this world, not only delish, but from the finest and freshest ingredients. There were about 5 or 6 courses and the wine flowed. I ate everything! The next morning I felt terrible. It was the wine, I just haven't been drinking it since starting this woe. I drank 5 glasses of water and set off for home (we stayed in a hotel overnight). I ate a salad on the way home, the first food I ate ... and once I got home I downed more water and went to bed. Yes, I suffered, but life is for living, and I am not overdosing on carbs every day. The extra pound I gained I lost in about three days. My own 50th birthday is next month and I am planning a lunch at my house. No fancy restaurant!! The food will be meats and salads, but I will have booze and there will no doubt be desserts (which I won't OD on), and possibly birthday cake. I only turn 50 once! Yes, I will gain a pound or two but I know that with this WOE, unlike any other I've ever done, I can get straight back into it the next day. I am motivated because I like how this way of eating makes me feel. With low calorie eating, it's easy to just come off the diet after a binge because one feels awful all the time anyway. |

| I was alone this weekend - my boys went with their dad so I sat on the couch and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. Then I ate 3 bowls of Frosted Flakes. It was so worth it at the time and then Saturday morning came and I felt awful. I have such a hard time on the weekend. During the week is fine. Beth |

| Whether or not having a planned binge is dooming for success is relative. I am back "on" today and drinking my water with a vengeance. I agree with Calleva: carbs are everywhere and I am not going to kid myself and think I will forever be able to avoid them. Carbing out like I did yesterday will not interfere with my success; if anything it reinforces why I've adopted this WOE. Yeah, I am stiffling my "guilts" but my better half of my brain tells me it was only a day. The best part of my binge: Twizzlers. Oh, how I miss them! Tracy: It's ironic how a person perceives another's weight loss. I feel like I haven't lost fast enough, but I know I am doing it in a healthy way. So...time is my friend. No secret; just diligence and a lot of research into making this my permanent WOL. I try every recipe and tip I read to add variety...which wards off the boredom. But I truly owe my 15 pounds lost to LCE. I have leared SO much and feeling like I am not alone is my secret. Good luck, and from what I see, you've done well for yourself, too! | Beth, Weekends are my worst too. I think cheating is a part of dieting. Maybe i'm just speaking for myself. I've done really well following this diet and I exercise at least 5 times a week. I'm weight lifting and actually seeing some good progress there. My clothes are all loose. Now, the scale hasn't moved alot at this point, I do not know the reason why, I figure it could be from the muscle gain, but I'm not sure. Regardless of the scale not moving, I believe the inches ARE coming off. I think its important after a person cheats to just get back up on the horse again. Hang in there everyone!! Tracy |

| Tracy, the reason your scale is not budging is most certainly the weight lifting. Even though that evil thing is what we tend to use to measure our success, the proof is in how many inches you have lost. Are you measuring? | Not many people are 100% , 100% of the time. But this thread is talking about a blow out or a binge, and in my opinion that is not something anyone should be doing if you are following a low carb way of eating. You are setting yourself up for failure. Victors are really just temporary quitters who then regroup with a vengeance. |
