Hi All-During my walk this morning I ran into a neighbor who 3 years ago lost 123 pounds on Atkins and still follows this WOL. He told me that he and his daughter, who share the same birthday, had a big birthday blow-out this weekend-cake, ice cream, chocolate etc. The eat-fest lasted 3 days and he feels that it was enough to stop him from burning fat. He started back on Induction on Monday and was hoping that 3-5 days of that would have him burning fat again and not carbs. His question to me was-how many days on Induction does it take the body to get back to fat burning mode? I didn't have an answer for him. Does anyone out there have an idea?

Entering ketosis is a matter of getting the liver to dump all of it's glycogen stores. so it would depend on the current amount of glycogen stored and the amount of activity your neighbor participates in. Exercise will hasten the process. I would guess that if he has been doing low carb for 3 years he will be back in ketosis within 3 days. But this is definitely a YMMV thing.

Rob-I thought it would be at least 48 hours, but an extra day or two couldn't hurt. He's use to eating @75 carbs/day and I think keeping the carbs at 20 has been tougher than he remembered-LOL. Thanks for answering.

Katalina - I meant that he would probably be back in a maximum of 3 days. 2 is more likely. The body will only store so much glycogen and then it's converted to fat. at 20 a day I think he might be back as we speak.

| well.... as Rob says, it is YMMV, and several times I have *tracked* the time it took me to get back into ketosis after various high carb *mistakes*. For me, especially after consuming extremely high carb items like cake with icing, ice cream, really high octane things...it took me 3.5 days; meaning around noon on the 4th day, the stix were pink. Again, YMMV applies, as I don't seem to show ketosis very often on the stix, despite KNOWING that I am there, just by the taste in my mouth. 2 more cents, there! s
