I'm a little bit confused about when to move on to OWL. I feel like I'm sorta in between Induction and OWL. I'm still far from my weight goal and reading Dr. Atkins' book & web site it states there, that one can stay on Induction for several months. I've seen several here say to move on from Induction after a couple of weeks. Why move on so early? Any input is appreciated. Never give up! Never surrender! Katrin

Katrin: I found that Induction was just too hard to maintain for a long time. I stalled at the dreaded three week mark, and stayed at the same weight for a long time. So, I started adding carbs slowly. When I did that I began to lose steadily again. I also added exercise which helps immensely. Now I vary big carbs days (50 to 70) with small carb days (30 to 50). This seems to keep me losing steadily. I also need to keep my water to about a gallon a day. Peg 1/1/03 205/177/165 5'8"

Peg, the alternating days tip is a great one! I'm finishing out my 3rd AND 4th week stall. I think my main problems are birth control I started 3 weeks ago, muscle gain from jogging, and too many nuts too soon. Katrin, I followed the advice on the forums and went to OWL right out of a two week induction. But do it by adding only legal veggies - I'm taking the nuts out and hope it breaks the stall. Read the sticky post "Unreasonable fear of OWLS." That's the one that converted me, plus there's great advice on how to do it right. http://lowcarbeating.infopop.cc/6/ub...4&m=8866090814 Keep us updated about what you decide! xoxo

Thanks so much guys! I'll try Peg's approach (after adding more carbs little by little) I've been getting my exercise pretty consistently (swiming, weight training, eliptical trainer, stepper, tread mill - whatever I feel like) What did I do before finding this great Website! Thanks again ![]() Never give up! Never surrender! Katrin

There's a great link at the top of this forum called "Are you afraid of Owls" that addresses your concerns very well. It's a series of posts from someone that was skeptical about entering OWL but did so and had good results. Your body has a critical carb level, below which you lose and above which you don't. More importantly, it also seems to have a level where you lose weight most efficiently. For many people, this is NOT 20 grams of carbs a day. It can be 30, 35, even higher. I understand the natural instinct that "less is more" when you're dieting, but if less really worked for you, you'd probably be doing a low fat plan instead...
