Just my $.02 I have never heard of this diet/WOE to make one more susceptible to bruising. If this is of concern to you, see your doctor... I will be happy to be contradicted here by someone who knows otherwise... --jim

I know I am not able to give medical advice and you should see your doctor, but my Dr tested me for anemia and other vitamin deficiencies when I found I was bruising. Some people are more susceptible to bruising in general, like me. But since it just started for you, I would see a doc. ~Steph

| You need to see your doctor but here are just a few common causes for excess bruising... Are you on blood thinners? Are you taking aspirin or other NSAID's? Aleve (or naproxen sodium is a common cause of GI bleeds requiring hospitalization) A fewer amount of people are sensitive to ibuprofen as well. Vitamin deficiciencies (especially Vitamin K) Anemia There are literally thousands of reasons why you could be bruising more, which is why it is important to see your doctor. I personally am terribly sensitive to naproxen sodium (aleve) and even with only 1 or 2 doses it causes massive bruising on me, even just by leaning up against something. I literally looked like someone had just beat the hell out of me within a day and a half of taking it. We counteracted the naproxen and internal bleeding by my eating more Tums than I could honestly stand. Calcium Carbonate will do that for that type of bleed. (I did this under a doctor's supervision) See your doctor, have them run a few blood tests to check for deficiencies, check to see if any blood thinner levels are too high, if you are anemic, clotting times and factors (PT or PTT test), platelet counts, etc. All this won't take more than a few tubes of blood and the results are quick. If your bruising starts getting massive, go to a doctor or hospital immediately. (i.e. I was black and blue from my waist to just above my knees just by leaning against patient beds providing care over 1 12 hour shift) Do not mess around with any heavy unexplained bruising as it signals internal bleeding or weak/damaged arterial and veinous walls (which can lead to CVA or strokes) Susan, RRT, St Louis University Hospital, MICU LC and feeling better every day! | I've noticed that before, too. It seems to have lessened lately. I can't swear to it, but I think I read somewhere that bruising can be a side-effect of low-carbing. *********************** "Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who the person is you're talking to. Then on the way out, slam the door." |

Hi All, I am not having bruising to any excessive measure, it just seems easier to get one. A bump into the coffee table and there is a bruise. I also think that some of my spider veins are collapsing or exploding... Sweetgal...I take no medications of any kind not even tylenol, becuase I am trying to get pregnnt. H.

I have always been an easy bruiser, but I seem to be bruising less lately, probably because I am taking vitamins now and never have before. Sunshinehid - definitely mention this to your doctor. Sudden increase in bruise susceptability can be an indicator for issues (I'm not trying to scare you, but you need to take care of yourself!) Jen 175/131/120

I have to say that is one of the things I noticed about eating Atkins. Less bruising. I always bruised easily before, and I attributed it to low iron, (I ate very little meat). Now when I bruise , it heals much quicker. Maybe you want to ask your doctor about this. Victors are really just temporary quitters who then regroup with a vengeance.
