Hello All,
I am usually just a reader but today I finally went out to FitDay.com to see what all the buzz was about and I made my account and when I started to tally up the food I had eaten already today I was amazed at the results. Here is where my question comes in...According to fitday.com 67% of todays food was fat content. Only 27% was protein. Could this be why my weight lose is so slow? I don't remember Atkins saying anything about the fat/protein ratio but its been awhile since I cracked the book.
Incase you want to know what I ate, here it goes:
Breakfast:
2 egg omelete with cheddar cheese
2 slices of bacon
1 cup of watermelon

Snack:
celery with cream cheese

Lunch:
12 chicken wings(the small ones)
1 diet rite

Water intake: 1 gallon of water

Dinner:
Undecided at this time.

Please let me know if I have to worry about the fat/protien percentages?

You don't have to worry so much about fat/protein intake as you do about getting more veggies in. So far, you've had celery as a snack, but veggies in general should make up a good portion of your food intake for the day..

shrinkydink is right... eat lots more veggies and isn't fitday great? A typical induction menu consists of 70-80% of the total calories coming from fat. If you are slow losing at this point try cutting back on the fat just a tad and see what happens (thats what I'm doing now)

Welcome, Workingmom.

My experience leads me to suggest that you shouldn't worry much about the fat content of your menu. As I recall, you pretty much just finished induction.

By way of example, when I started Atkins, I used the 1998 edition of DANDR. There were NO limits on cheese or heavy cream and I took that advice to heart! I still buy heavy cream by the quart and do nothing to avoid fat - I love it. I put a couple of days through fitday once not too long ago and I do between 55% and 70% fat, and I'm in maintenance. (... and I just got my most recent lipid profile and my HDL/Total cholesterol ratio is 2.3 - 4 and under is what you aim for).

On the other hand, there are some who feel they do better also watching total calories and puttin some limits on fat. I think this whole way of eating is a learning experience. I hope you'll take the time to experiment a bit and learn what works best for you.

I would point out that a cup of watermelon is probably not your best choice for fruit. That's about 11 gms of carbs and not much fiber. You could get a lot more "food" for that number of carbs (and a lot more fiber) if you had 3 or 4 cups of low carb vegetables - some cooked and some raw in a salad, or dipped in something yummy, throughout the day. This is something you might consider.

HTH some.

Maggie

I'm one of those people who's trying to watch my fats a little, but I'd like to clarify that I'm trying to get them into the kind of range Maggie talks about (55-70%, plus or minus). I went sort of whole-hog (to make a deliberate pun) when I started and want to scale it back a little now. And I watch my calories but, ironically, it's because I tend to eat too LITTLE on this way of eating, not too much!

OK, I thought I may be over-reacting but I feel better. I usually eat all my vegetables at night and since I didn't have dinner at the time of posting, I guess my menu wouldn't reflect that. Either way, thanks so much for all the input. And I do think Fitday.com is very cool.

I don't worry about fat, but I DO worry about fiber. Without it, my weight loss crawls. But, when I eat lots of fiber (and consequently a lot more 'gross' carbs) and keep the net carbs down to the same as before, the weight just drops off!

I agree with all the good advice everyone has given you. The only thing I would add is to suggest you might feel better by eating some veggies throughout the day. I know working veggies into breakfast sounds weird, but adding some veggies to your morning eggs is one way to do that. Veggies and salads fit nicely in with lunch.

Oh, one other thing. Some commercially made chicken wings are ~very~ high in carbs. I assume that comes from the sauce they use in cooking, which probably has sugar.

The Trader Joe's frozen chicken wings and drumettes I bought are an amazing 10 g carb for only 4 pieces! They are sitting unopend in the freezer as I just cannot bear to eat that many carbs in my "meat" dish. (Note to self: always remember read the labels ~before~ buying packaged foods!)
