Hi folks. I'm looking for a good recipe for homemade hot flax seed cereal. I think I saw one here before the crash, but now that I've finally obtained some flax seed, I can't find the recipe. If anyone has a good one that they like, I wish they'd post it for me. Thanks. Weaverdan

This is my recipe. I make it in 'bulk' so I always have it ready to use. Mix equal parts (by WEIGHT, not volume) Flax meal, soy protein isolate and unprocessed coarse wheat bran. Store it in an airtight canister (like tupperware) in the fridge. Flax and flax meal should always be refrigerated, since they have oils which would go rancid over time, if not kept cool. In the morning put about 1/3 to 1/2 a cup into a bowl and add boiling water while stirring until it's the consistency you like. Add cream, splenda and whatever strikes your fancy, nuts, fruit, davinci syrup, cocoa, etc. a 1/2 cup serving (dry) has: 160 calories 6g fat 16g carb. 11.6g fiber 4.4g ECC 18g Protein Maggie 5'1" ~~ Atkins since '98 (160)/Maintaining nicely (110) ~~ Redhead until further notice!

Mine is very much like Maggie's, except I make it up a bowl at a time! I use: 1 T. ground flax meal 1 T. unprocessed wheat bran 1 T. almond or pecan meal 1 T. powder - either whey or soy isolate or some Dr. Atkin's Shake mix - the chocolate is good! I put all that in a microwave-safe cereal bowl, add 2 squirts of DV syrup to compliment the flavor of the day (i.e., for plain I add either huckleberry or Danish Pastry syrup; if I'm using the Chocolate shake powder, I use Chocolate or Danish Pastry DV syrup), then add a tablespoon of cream or half and half and about half a cup of water. Stir well, nuke 1 minute, stir again, nuke til thickened to your liking. Then you can add more syrup if you like, or butter, cinnamon, more cream or half & half - whatever you like on hot cereal! I've also substituted oat bran for the wheat bran, which tastes great too, but is higher in carbs. Char Don't squat with yer spurs on!

I also add other ground up nut meats to mine: pistacchios, cashews etc. It is so filling. If I have bacon pre-cooked, I have a couple of slices with it. It sticks with me for a good 3-4 hours. Now THAT will stick to your ribs. Barb Atkins-3/14/03 174/149.4/135 "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."
