| Hi all, I'm going on a 4 day cruise on Monday to Mexico. I was hoping that someone could offer some advice of how to stay LC in this type of situation. I do not wish to "cheat" and go off my WOL. After a more than a 50 lbs weight loss and feeling better than I have in years, putting this at risk in not an option. Thanks in advance. Information gladly given, but safety requires no unnecessary conversation. http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...wner=RedLegg46 LC - 7/3/03 290/235.2/169 |

| Sean, Hi just came back from a 5 day cruise to Mexico. If you plan on working out in the spa, do call and schedule it, if not you may not get anywhere near the place for over crowing. If your like me and have a weakness for candy, as soon as they put that candy on your pillow, TRASH it. Water is available on the ship, but bottled water is kinda expensive ($4), regular water is fine(and free) but I could never find anything big enough to drink out of, you might want to being your own containter. Also I find the bottle water in port (Mexico) to be pretty cheat and they don't care if you bring it on the ship. To add to my workout I told myself that I would only use the stair...that lasted about 4 days. Oh, check the information newletter they give you each day. My cruise had a excerise class it was fun and just hard enough. Most of the time I had the cheeseburger w/o a bun and salad. One cruise I was on you could order steak (instead of hamburger)but not this last one. They had plenty of cheese, not a lot of veggies. Oh and they have a "Spa Menu"(no additional cost) you can request it more low fat but it has vegges, look into it. If I can think of anything else I will try to post it. Also if you have a question I will try to answer it. If God is for me, who can be againist me? | Most cruises have a breakfast buffet of some kind. THey should have eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, etc, etc. No problem there. The last cruise I was on had a burger bar out by the pool. Burgers, dogs, fixin's. No law against trashing the bread. If there is a formal dining room, you can probably talk to your server the first night and ask about special consideration if the menu of the evening isn't workable. You will likely have the same server every night, and they WILL accomodate you if they can. Be careful at the lunch, dinner, and midnight buffets. Lots of breads, pastas and such. And of course, you will probably have some kind of party night, or two, or three. Oh, and no drinks with little umbrellas. Way too much sugar. Oh, and about that little candy on your pillow. Tell the Steward you don't want it. These folks get most of their pay from your tip at the end of the cruise. If you tell him/her you don't want the candy, you probably will never see another piece. |

| From my experience, the cruise line we went with did anything we asked them too. For instance, we love shrimp cocktail so we told our waiter the first night that we would like one of those each night as an appetizer...no problem..that's what we got(safe low-carb food, BTW). There was also the breakfast buffet and a lunch buffet and also like Jetdad said, there may possibly be a grill by the pool...all you can eat whenever you want. Ours had a grill with hamburgers, sausage, and a pizzeria..peel those toppings off and eat away! We also walked around the promanade most days for exercise. GO snorkling on the islands and have a blast. I hope this helps! 193(march 2003, lost 10 with exercise and cutting back) Started LCing on Aug. 25,2003 183/175/150 |

| What Kim said... Most of these folks work for your tip as their primary income. The cabin stewards and your restaurant server for sure. They will do whatever they can to accomodate your diet. BTW: The last one I went on had 24 hr room service at no extra charge. If you feel embarassed about ripping a sandwich apart to get at the good stuff, order in and tear away ![]() The one thing to watch out for is that there is just SO MUCH FOOD. I was amazed. Here is a horror story for you... A member of our group (we went with about 40 people) sampled almost every dessert at one midnight buffet. I cannot believe how much she ate. She was literally green. Holding her stomache and moaning; "why, oh why did eat all of that..." My DD comes bouncing up with a bowl of ice cream, and this lady asks where she got that. When my DD pointed out the ice cream stand, off this woman went to get some. I was sick with just the thought of all that sweet stuff, and I wasn't even doing LC at the time... OK. One more. 1st night of the cruise we had a midnight Italian themed buffet. One young guy... Skinny as a pole Man I love cruises... --jim |

| Thanks all. This makes me feel much better. I have gotten so used to my routine that I am a bit leary, but your advice is reassuring. The ship I'm going on has an internet cafe, so I'll keep in touch and still be able to use FitDay.
