| What is the difference between wheat germ, and wheat bran, and also... I have read in some of the posts that some of you take extra fiber... this may sound silly, but if you take it with a meal, can you reduce the fiber from your carb count???? "I know in whom I have believed." |

| Okay, wheat bran is the outermost covering of a wheat kernel and is primariy insoluable, which is why it is not used in flours. Wheat germ is contained at the base of the kernal and is the portion that would sprout if planted. The germ contains a lot of fat (reative to the rest of the kernel) and is stripped away because it will cause the after-product to go rancid. Both are low in carbs, compared to the endosperm, which is what most processed wheat products are made from (flours, etc.). As far as fiber goes, you can't really use it as your carb count because most fibers are insoluable (meaning they pass right through you). When taking fiber, make sure you stay away from items such as Metamucil, which contain fillers and sugars. Use Psyllum husk fiber. I purchase it at my local HFS in capsuls, so it's not as "icky" as taking it in a beverage. Hope this helps!! And yes, it's probably more than you ever wanted to know about wheat kernels.
