Has anyone currently in OWL added corn back to their menu yet? Any negative effects?

I'd like to add back the small cans of Green Giant Niblets (white & yellow)which are like 13 carbs for 2/3 cup.

I really do miss it, and there's really no substitute for it, and it *is* a vegetable...

During the summer, I added 1/2 an ear of fresh corn once or twice a week. No bad effects. i wouldn't eat it every day, but you may as well try it out and see how your body reacts to it. I can't imagine a life without some corn once in a while!

I think I'll try it as soon as I get the guts.. I added peas back once a week about a month ago.. They have just over half the amount of carbs that corn has..

For some reason, double digit carbs in a single serving still scare the jeebies out of me..

well is the double digets scare you just do 1/3 of a cup and it is only 6.5 carbs (if 2/3 is 13).... how does that sound for a solution....

Can't say as I blame you for being nervous about reintroducing corn. As John and Carolyn suggested, I guess the thing to do is ease it back in very slowly and see how it goes.

I can tell you that for me, I had to put corn on my "never again" list. My favorite dinner (in front of the TV of course) used to be a family box of Banquet Fried Chicken, half a box of instant mashed potatos with half a stick of butter, and a large can of corn with the other half stick of butter. With a huge bowl of ice cream for dessert. And I honestly thought the worst part of this menu was the butter!

And sometimes when I was on a "fruit & veggie diet", I would eat two cans of corn at a time, along with half a watermelon. After all, nobody ever got fat from eating fruit and vegetables, right? Yikes!!

But I digress...if you're not a cornaholic like me, give it a try, keep careful records, and see how you do. Since you're giving this such careful consideration, my guess is you'll be just fine.

Best wishes!

Yikes! I never went that far.

There's just some meals that scream *serve me with corn!*

One of my favorite meals was always filet mignon with sauteed mushrooms & onions, sweet corn, and mashed potatoes. I can easily live without the mashed potatoes, and I never could eat more than 1/2 a can at once..

I do fresh corn, a half an ear at a time and only on Sundays, whenever it's in season locally, which means my "season" is pretty short and just about over. It's one of my "seasonal exceptions with moderation" like dark cherries - which I buy only a few at a time.

My next seasonal exception is pomegranate. When I was little, my mom told me they were my birthday fruit. I still believe it! I can eat one over the course of a week, one quarter at a time, with no problems.

I had "seasonal exceptions" thoughout my OWL period.

I eat those baby corncobs in a can they use in Chinese food. A whole can has just a few net carbs.

The problem with corn is the endosperm, the starchy interior. You know, if you were really determined to get the flavor of corn, you could boil some corn, press it to get most of the starch out, then rinse and strain. You'd have mostly hull that way, which would still have that nice corn smell. And you could use it in a recipe. The carb count? Beats me.

A Korean friend used to bring something to work that I LOVED. He called it burnt corn tea. It's a traditional Korean drink. They burn some corn kernels black, I guess without popping it, then they put the kernels into a tea strainer and steep it. The result comes out an amber color and smells nice, like corn on the cob. It's probably very low carb,
