I went a little crazy yesterday. I didn't eat anthing with high carbs but I ate a ton of low carb snacks and foods. I can't believe how much I ate. I had a serving of atkins Ice cream piled hih with whipped cream, then I had and a low carb bar, a little later a cheese quesadia(sp?) on a low carb tortilla, followed by a little peanut butter. I don't know what came over me, I couldn't stop eating. It was horrible! Today I am going back to normal. Hopefully I won't have a hard time sticking to my normal meals.

I do that sometimes too.

Usually it's TOM but once in a while, I just feel like eating for some reason.

At least it wasn't pizza, pasta, chips, and oreos!

Remember, if you weren't dieting, you'd still have days were you would more than other days. I think that's normal. It's just that while dieting, we pay such close attention that it freaks us out!

Hang in there, it could be worse.

I think I know why it I did it... I have been really strict for the past few weeks because I was going back to visit some of my old sorority sisters for Homecoming at my college. Well that was this past weekend so I think I needed a little break from extreme dieting. One thing is good though, during the wntire night of stuffing my face, I never once thought to eat something that was completely not allowed.

Maria,

I can soooo relate

Sometimes I feel like I can't get satisfied no matter what I eat - nothing will do.
Oh, and TOM is a reason also - usually the day before or/and the first day of the visit.

Cool, that you didn't crave any "bad stuff"

Never give up! Never surrender!

Man, I get the munchies sometimes, too - really bad.

These days, I try to include some veggies in my munchathons - peanut butter stuffed in celery, cheddar cheese over nuked brocolli, bell peppers dipped in sour cream, etc. I keep switching foods, too - so I don't get into one of those phases where I just mindlessly eat the same food until the carton is empty.

reading your munchie foods, makes me want to get some peanut butter and put on celery, but I can't get peanut butter in my house yet, it is a "red light" food for me. ie, I can sit and eat the whole jar by it self.... oh well, maybe in a little while I will be a little better able to handle it, but right now, I know what I would do... funny, I can have one cookie, and be ok, but that peanut butter is something else.

I had a munchie day yesterday too, for no apparent reason. I think like Marcie says, some days you just want/need to eat more - but making it good low-carb choices is a big PLUS!

Good for you for keeping it low-carb!

Actually, I just thought about this some more, and I think it's my old theory about to kick in - we are now into the "less daylight hours" time of year, and I truly believe that our bodies aren't so enlightened as our brains - this time of year signals our bodies to store up some fat while there is enough food - they haven't caught up with the evolutionary facts of life in the 21st century yet!

I think it's the Atkins Ice cream. I had a very similar experience. It blew me out of ketosis. I read the ingredients, and the only thing I can think of that might be a problem is the sorbitol, which is a sugar alcohol that's been around longer than maltitol. I guess it's possible that the sorbitol may be to blame, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I learned my lesson. No Atkins Ice Cream for me.

Maria~

When you get back to your regular low-carb program, I hope you'll give up "extreme dieting" of any kind...that doesn't really have any advantages, and almost inevitably leads to binging our falling back into old patterns. I realize that the kinds of things you ate are lower in carbs than some other things, but still....ice cream, whipped cream, snack bars, and tortillas can be dangerous territory. You might experience some pretty strong cravings over the next few days, so be sure to drink lots of water and get plenty of high-quality low-carb nutrition.

(Having said that, it appears that your weight loss is coming right along, so apparently what you're doing is working for you. It's just that I worry when I see people talking about being extremely strict and then hitting the "substitute" junk food).

Best wishes!

I noticed too that after I would eat legal low carb things, like the Ice cream, I would get the muchies. But I discovered it almost alway started with something sweet, then I was off and running. So now what I do after I eat a low carb treat that is sweet, I go brush my teeth, rinse very very well and then drink as much water as I can stand, immediatly. This really works for me.

If God is for me, who can be againist me?

I have similar days and yesterday was one for me also. I just seemed hungrier than usual and felt like I needed to eat more so I indulged on peanuts. I love those peanuts. Funny I wasn't this crazy about them before I started low carbing.

Hartensia, good idea. I may try that too. I seem to want more sweet something sometimes after I've had something sweet too. But most of the time it satisfies that deep need. I eat my treats very slowly so I can enjoy them longer.

I ate a ton of LC cheesecake yesterday ! had it when I got in from work, took one round to a friend's ( where we had a long conversation about my dieting) and everybody loved it so much they want the recipe! As it happens one of the girls was doing a carbohydrate curfew diet ( do you know about this one?) where the theory is you don't have carbs in the evening because you don't need them if you're only going to go to bed. She's been losing loads of weight but I think this is mainly due to loads of exercise.

You were absolustely right...
I have been experiencing severe cravins and also my appetite in general is crazy. I have really been struggling to go back to my normal dieting ways but all I think about is food.
I am heading back to the gym tomorrow (my schedule hasn't allowed me back before then. I figure by the end of tomorrow I should be back on track. My 25th B-day is in Mid November. That gives me 1 month to shed some lbs before the party. I would love to drop 10 but 5 to 7 is probably more resonable. Wish me luck...

Don't feel bad...it could have been apple crisp and real ice cream...and you could have been standing over the apple crisp pan with such a crazed expression on your face that you frightened the children..
